Back in High School, a friend of mine had a beautiful ’68 442 that "shot flames."
Nice effect at night shooting blue flames out of the dual exhaust.
When asked how he did it, and not providing specifics he said something to do with his dual point distributor, coils in the trunk powered by the taillights thus wired to the spark plugs tapped into the exhaust.
A switch was next to his console, and when activated would kill the ignition, filling the exhaust with unburned fuel, igniting by the spark plugs.
Downside was tune-ups. Took 10 plugs, everytime.
Loved that car. Forgot to mention, fast as hell too…
Mike.

My cousin has a 200SX he's built up. Scary fast car once the boost is up.

And he's got this particular exhaust mod as well (the shooting flames). I find it takes what is otherwise a righteous performance vehicle and carries it right past the threshold into sillyness. But you know, diff'rent strokes, etc.....

You can do that without the car. Recipe: 2 berritos and a plate of refried beans and your USMC issued lighter. LOL - Azz rockets, my azz. I'll bring the beer. Dennis:beer:

Flames were always big with the 50 crowd. At Lead East they have a flame throwing contest every year. The real way to do it is as Mike described in his friend's 442. Also it worked great with a manual choke. You would roll along, pull out the choke and load up the engine and exhaust, then flip this switch and rev the engine as you push the choke back in. Nowadays a lot of guys use propane to get the really huge flames. That's just cheating! Of course shooting flames out the exhaust is illegal on the street, but it will get rid of any tailgater!

Darn .... there's always a hitch. :flamer:

I mean, if I can't light 'em up going through the check point/security station at Ft. Detrick, what good are they?
