I was wondering if anyone on here does or has owned a Lincoln Mark VII (besides DR with his big HP version!!! :D ).

I have always liked the styling and refinement of the car. Just wondering if they are as enjoyable to own and drive as they sound like they should be. Any maintenance issues or common problems? Just looking at different options for a new daily driver/winter car so I can keep the miles off of the Marauder (25,000+ per year is just too much). Would rather have another car to share the miles with and the wife hasn't been too keen on swapping cars as it is MUCH easier to put the baby in the back of the Five Hundred than it is in the Marauder.

Any input on the Mark VIII would be appreciated. Was kind of thinking a '97-'98 LSC. Is there any real difference between the earlier Mark VIII and the '97-'98 other than styling?

My brother did KOOKS headers on one a couple years back, I only got to sit in it. It was very comfortable :D

beware the costs of the HID lights on the newer versions. Prices could be new $500 per side.

Do they have a problem where they need regular replacement? That makes $40 for Silverstars seems like nothing.

Any problems with the air suspension on those? Don't they lower the enitre car above a certain speed to help with aerodynamics?

I recalled reading about the car lowering itself at about 55mph. You have to figure that the age of the car that the air springs will go in time. Plus they are part of the strut assy. They are not as cheap or easy as the Mark 7 style springs.

My son-in-law has a 94 MK VIII which he has labeled "Hot Rod Lincoln." He has done a lot of work to the car including: complete spring suspension change over, tranny upgrade with a 3000 speed PI Stalliion, 4.10's gears, 17" chrome rims with Nitto 555's and Nitto Drag radials on the rear, Zex 75 shot of nitrous. At Atlanta Dragway during SSHS5 he ran a best of 13.1 at 101 mph. The car is in the shop having a Procharger P1SC installed w/ 2 core air to air intercooler. The car should be in the low 12's once completed. Plus, he will be getting my Marauder motor once my forged motor is built.

He loves his car for the ride, comfort as well as how quick it is which surprises a lot fo people. But most of all, because it is unique. If you have any questions, give him a call (Justin - Cell 239-989-3473) and tell him his father-in-law gave you the number.

Tom,

Thanks for the input. I am not looking to go wild on modifications or any at all, as I want to keep the miles off the Marauder so I can do modifications on it. But I still want something unique, roomy, comfortable, and safe to commute in with my daily 100 mile round trip commute. And something that can take the miles being put on it.

I rode in Justins car to Altana. It is a nice ride all around. Find a nice one, you can't go wrong.

Yeah, I have checked some of the Mark VIII forums and there are a LOT of them with WELL over 100,000 miles on them. One mileage thread had someone with over 300,000 miles on original motor and tranny. This is what I like to see. And over all reliability seems to be MUCH better than one of my other loves - the previous body style Cadillac STS. They seem to die by 100,000. And the Mark VIII has a spring/shock conversion available if you want to get rid of the air ride suspension if it goes.

But relatively low entry price, relatively easy maintenance (except the air ride), and solid platform. Very enticing. Little older year wise, but they seem to wear well and the interior appeals to me more than a CVPI or something.

Sorry, just thinking out loud. Need to find one around here to test drive. Would love a LSC with Cobra R wheels. Found a couple with that setup that look great.
