Just wondering if anyone has had the chance to play around with any of the previous, FWD Cadillac STS cars? I have always liked the STS, even test drove one last summer when looking at cars. Just couldn't justify the price for the number of electrical and other problems that they seem to have and the fact that they seem to become money pits after about 70,000 miles or so.
Anyway, just wondering how our Marauders do against the STS.

I grew up driving my mom's STS's. She had a new one every year untill 03 when I turned her to a BMW 740i Sport.
I can tell you this. They're pretty damn close. But personaly FWD is for girlies.

I figured they would be close as those cars run pretty good. And nice ride with lots of bells and whistles, but just don't seem to reliable.
I do like the new STS, but it is a disgrace to be able to get one with a V6 in it. I think they look better than the CTS, personally.

Well, now that they come in a V6 is because "STS" is no longer a trim-level but is now the actual model name.
Even still, the old Seville didn't have a V6.
Before the new STS, the Seville came in SLS and STS versions. Same engine, but the SLS was slightly detuned. I've heard that while it makes less HP on paper, the cams give better low end torque so off the line acceleration is equal or better to that of the STS...go figure.
I still think the last incarnation of the Seville is a very sharp looking car. I believe the styling, while considered understated at the time, is somewhat timeless and will look pretty good for years to come.
I love cars that can pull that off.

I agree. I think the previous STS has a very time less look that will still look good another 10 years from now.
And, yes, the SLS has slightly less hp, but is tuned for more torque.
The STS sounds really good with a Corsa exhaust, too:

I smoked a 98 STS along with a 00 ETC and my mothers 03 DTS.
My cousin has a 97 ETC with 140k miles on it and there hasnt been any issues with it except a sensor going bad once and while. but its mechanically 100%

I, too, have easily dispatched of a later DTS, but have not had the pleasure of a run in with an STS yet. Either way, I hope someday that mine will be able to easily dispatch of the new CTS-V!!!! :D

On a side note I'm gona line up with the 740i sometime. I think stock vs stock I'll get creamed.

We have had several STSs in the family, those cars have always been a favorite of mine. I also considered a used STS as an alternative to the Marauder, but the RWD, rarity, and mod potential of the MM won out.
An STS would beat a stock Marauder.

Careful, there are some quick STS's out there, too... There's one that runs at the local track, ryhming of 13.1's all day long. It looks/sounds bone stock, with really dark tinted windows. You should see the looks on everyones faces, when the 70-ish drvier hops out!
