Makes me curious...
Just how hard is it to get vanity plates in various states?
In Michigan, you ask, they check to see if it's taken, then you get the plate in a week or so.
It took a minute, maybe 2, to get mine approved, and the plate was installed a week later.
Like I said, just curious...

In Ohio you can check online to see what is available. Then it is about a week to receive the plates.

In TN you submit your request along with payment ($35 for the personalized plate). The request has places for 3 choices. You get a reply a couple of weeks later informing you if it's approved or not. Then the plate comes to your county clerk where tags are normally issued. If the application is made before the 1st of the month, the plate should be received before the end of the following month. Then you pick it up and pay the regular license fee on top of the $35. In some counties there is a wheel tax, in others there is not. I don't have one in my home county and I believe the annual fee is about $28.

I have a vanity plate on my Marauder. The NYS Dept of Motor Vehicles lets you check on line if the plate you request is available.
Now the cost for a two year registration is $100.00 for my Initials and an organization insignia. Then add the weight charge and that's $ 175.00 for two years.:(

Here in Virginia, the way i did it, I was at work and a buddy was looking at VA DMV online and trying to come up with something for his 1970 Buick GS when I decided to try different combos for my Marauder. I kept typing stuff, it was all taken already except for 1 of 328. Guess what my plates now have on them? And it was cheap cheap, like less than 60 bucks. And I've had people ask "1 of 328 what?" It's always fun to explain it.:)

In Texas your registration fee varies on the type of vehicle you drive, i.e. small car, big car, truck, suv, exotic, etc... My MM is $73 for registration and an extra $30 for my sports team plate and another $30 if I had it personalized. It takes about 2 seconds to see if a plate is taken and about 3 week to get your one of 3 choices approved and sent to the Tax office. We have to put on two plates in Texas, but if you lose one you only have to pay $5 for a replacement one. And whats more....there is only one other car in my city to have the same type of plate that I have and its a Mustang.
