I found a guy through e-bay, who goes by "redinterceptor" who makes a badge that looks just like the Ford "POLICE INTERCEPTOR" badge without the "POLICE" part. It is the same size as stock and the same font. The "INTERCEPTOR" word is stretched wider to make up the size difference. It is a real badge, not a domed decal. It comes with adhesive, and looks great. This will solve the concern over possibly impersonating law enforcement. It costs $12.00 shipped. The vendor was a pleasure to deal with. Here is a link to his e-bay store, and to his current auction:

"PURSUIT VEHICLE" tickles my fancy a lil bit more ;) Sounds fast(we can back it up) and doesn't say Police Or Interceptor. Whats actualy wrong with having the word police in it? How many non police officers own PI's with PI badges still on just on the CVN-CVU sites alone? Even if you are illegaly pulling someone over and they can see the PI badge then chances are you must have ran them off the road :)

The way I see it, Police Interceptor is a way to identify a modle in the CV line up. I have heard of some police (not in any agency I ever worked for) making a case against civilians displaying the word "police" on a privatly owned CVPI.

I do not agree with that as long as there is no impersonation going on, but it is enough to generate a criminal case. It would most likely get thrown out and the cop would probably look like a fool.

More than a year ago there were "Panther Interceptor" badges sold. Several folks here have them.

Panther is more of a broader title than Police Interceptor. Hell I almost had a Neon Interceptor badge made if that shows you how long ago I wanted a panther ;) I know what I was, you don't have to point it out.

I had the "PANTHER INTERCEPTOR", but it was a domed decal and not a real badge. I got tired of answering questions about what panther interceptor meant.

Most cops won't say anything about a badge.

From everything that I have been told they will act on your more for effects which point forward and are visible from the reat view of a driver in front of you than from somehing on the rear of your car.

I gotta agree with Charlie on this one. The cop would look like a real friggin (friggin@!7%) dope attempting to make a criminal case on the OEM model name displayed on a car. I mean there are literally thousands of these sleds that have been auctioned off into the the civilian market over the years with the OEM badge still attached. Any LEO making an arrest on crap like this obviously hasn't got enough real patrol work to do and is badly in need of some close supervision.:shake:

The Police Interceptor badge used by Ford is a 'domed' plastic badge.
It has been for quite a few years now.

The 'Police Interceptor' name goes back to 1949 or 1950. Those days when Fighter jets were becoming common and were referred to as 'Interceptors'
Ford was smart to copyright it.

Ford police packaged cars goes back much farther though, at least to the Model A. Some of the Police car experts refuse to recognise it though, since neither Chrysler nor GM entered the Police market with any seriousness until the mid to late 50's, but have been inconsistent with their offering.

Yesterday while headed out to lunch, I came up on an old white AMC Pacer with "Police Interceptor" badge on the right rear. Didn't fool me a bit. I suspect the badge was the only thing that was keeping this beater running and on the road. :D
