Anyone looked into open source front ends for this? I'm googling but there are only a few options I can find- mainly dashpc. I used to have links to tons of them but it seems they are getting removed or thrown off the top of google searches for other things nowadays.

This isn't a complete list but it should show what I'm talking about. There used to be a lot more operating systems, especially Linux flavors, that you could use for this kind of setup
A lot of computer geeks get into this: https://www.timekiller.org/carpc/index.php

Oh...That. Gotcha, thanks.

One of our Michigan members brought his Marauder/wireless setup to Texas back in 2003. Awesome setup, but many areas between Michigan and Texas were not up to speed yet. But, awesome nonetheless.

Try this: http://users.skynet.be/media-car/software.html

Here's a good example of a CarPC. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=300153&highlight=carputer

(That's another forum I'm on, I'm a mod there.)

Anyway, if you search there plenty of carpc ideas being implemented. There's plenty of small form factor hardware out there these days to get this done easily. I've always wanted to do one but to really do a nice one you'll probably want a budget of atleast a grand - but with that you can get some awesome power and functionality.

A word of advice, just be sure you cool it properly.
