View Full Version : FYI Lee County Florida
If your going to Lee county Florida be careful! :drive:
Just got back from Fort Myers Beach what nice place while down there I saw 2 Marauders, which was a surprise. One North of Naples on US 41 and other in Fort Myers. You two know that you live in one dangerous and deadly county! Almost 3 a week die on the roads (what shock) in this county and it's only has about 500,000 people living there! :awe: If anyone from this group is going down please drive safe it is one crowded area!

Tom, I agree with some of what you said. The roads are crowded this time of year. Our population almost doubles in the winter months.
Our dealership sold around 3 dozen Marauders so we have a pretty large population of them here in Fort Myers.
The "3 per day" is a little mis-leading. There were 144 deaths on our roads last year. It was a record year by over a dozen. Right before Christmas, 4 people under 20 died in a crash where the driver was going at a high rate of speed and lost control. So yes, at least 3 people died that day on our roads. Unfortunately, Lee County is one of the fastest growing areas of the country and the infrastructure can not keep up. You may have noticed just about every road in the county is "under construction". We are suffering growing pains. We also have one of the lowest Florida Highway Patrol to citizen ratios in the state.
If you really want to visit Lee county, try visiting in the off season, which is after Easter to beginning of November. Our population is cut almost in half. Most people think it is too hot but that is not the whole truth. The average high in the summer is 85 to 90 degrees. The mid-west and north-east get hotter than us on a regular basis. Difference is, everything is air conditioned. We also have some of the nicest beaches in FL. Gulf water temps are like a bath tub, 85-88 degrees.
Enough of my "chamber of commerce" speech. I just love the area and don't want people to get the wrong message.
BTW, if anyone is planning a trip this way, drop me a line. We can get a group together for a meet.

Wow, great speech!
As a native Floridian who grew up in Clearwater, I remember fishing trips down your way in the 60's and 70's. Also had Naples to Citrus County as a sales territory for a decade or too.
The area has changed, not neccesarily for the better but whatyagonnado...

Jim,
Our lives are way too parallel. My brother and I would hop a Greyhound bus in St. Petersburg and travel down to the Ft. Myers bus station on Robert E. Lee St. (MLK for you noobs.). My Great Uncle would pick us up and cart us down to his house on Isle of Capri (Across the pass from Marco)for a week of fishing and grilling. Those were the best vacations of my life. :)

You do have to be careful especially on certain Friday nights around 10 or 11 or 12 near the secret laboratory where mad power generating gear head scientists are creating tire destroying monsters, especially when they fill the neighborhood with tire smoke to the delight of all the little children. :D Change your world, let them do their magic in your engine bay!
