I like it. Depending on how it ends up actually turning out come production time, I could be a Camaro man again. And 2009 would be a great purchase time frame. Would be a nice follow up to my last Camaro:

Pontiac: hurry up and make a Firebird, will ya? I might just have recovered enough from my Marauder reaming to be able to pick one up if ya do! I'd have to change my screen name, though.

I am not really a Chevy man, but it is nice!

Maybe this will help Ford decide to execute some of its concept cars for a change!

Its not too bad. But, at least this Camaro is less retro than the other vehicles. I personally would prefer the headlights mimic the tail lights in shape so that it captures part of the later gen Camaro look (and keeps things consistent). I like the Challenger better however.

Wow. Thats a nice car!!

I'd still like a Shelby though.

Me too, Charlie. I like it from the door rearward, and the roof line plus the three chrome strips foreward of the rear wheels. It's is a definite styling clue and retro theme to the '69, which I think was the best looking Camaro of all.

The front end, however, IMHO, is hideous.

With a release date of 2009, they have plenty of time to fix it though.

Hope and pray they bring a Pontiac version back with the Camaro. Last I head, that was not very likely.

By the way, very nice collection you have there. A 1st Gen and a 5th Gen would definitely complete it. Here is my list of Firebirds I would like to have by Generation:

1st Gen - Not to picky as I don't like the 1st Gen Firebird much
2nd Gen - '71 Ram Air T/A and '79 WS6 T/A (this would be my second one I have owned)
3rd Gen - '91 SLP Firehawk and '89 Turbo T/A
4th Gen - '02 WS6 T/A

That would be a nice dream garage for me. And the '71 would be white with blue strips and preferably black interior.

I'll agree it's pretty nice but long as I have my 2001 Bullitt Mustang and 2004 Marauder, Chevy will have to wait for my business

Looks like between what Chevy and The Germans (Chrysler) are offering, Ford had better get their act together or they will lose my business for my next new car.

Which should hit around 2008.

Don't you mean Smokey & The Bandit 4? Jerry "Snowman" Reed played the Bandit in 3, Burt only had a cameo in 3.

Ugh. Did you have to bring that up? #2 was pretty bad as it was, nowhere near the greatness that was #1. I saw approximately 12 seconds of #3 at one point. Saw enough.

There was also that pathetic TV series at one point where the young bandit used a black Stealth Turbo or 3000 GT that was driven around in the back of the trailer. Now, why would anyone well versed in Bandit knowledge think we'd be interested in a Bandit driving a high tech AWD turbo V6? Hello? Anyone home???

I'm not holding my breath on a Pontiac version... rumour has it the new GTO will share the platform, which will mean it can be sold up here! Which is good news, because I really like that powertrain (or whatever it will be by then). All they gotta do is give it a meaningful personality and look.

To be honest, I wouldn't lose any sleep over the lack of GTO... but a swoopy platform like this one being shown above deserves the name Firebird!

Did Chevrolet not a short while back announce it was ending it's plans for a new RWD passenger car platform?

Maybe that was just more hello left hand this is right hand stuff at GM....

TripleTransAm
01-11-2006, 09:19 AM
They put development of some new RWD platform on hold, which had all the enthusiasts up in arms. I think I read something about this outcry generating a response from GM to the effect that they would simply continue development on a current RWD platform... if this is true, this might explain the Cadillac cues in the rear area of this concept car. However, if current rumour is correct about the next gen GTO being able to meet Canadian regs, that would imply a fair number of basic changes to the platform.

I have to say after looking at it a while, it does grow on me. I stil think if you changed the taillights. get rid of the slots in front of the back tires and split the grille, it would make a much better looking Firebird.

Don't forget Mopar!
The Challenger concept looks pretty cool.

Just happen to be driving an 06 Dodge Charger R/T Hemi this week as a rental car for my sales trip. Had it up to 135 between Chattanooga and Knoxville this morning. It still had more...
But it made me appreciate the build "quality" on my Marauder. Imagine that.
Quirky interior layout too. Had the cruise on a stalk parallel to the turn signal, tried to use it as a turn signal numerous times. HVAC is not user friendly. WAY better stereo than our stock Marauders! Door sill is too high for your arm, stitching in leather seats already starting to unravel. Car had 15K.

Exhaust note sounds like a single exhaust CV...UGLY motor cover on the Hemi, battery in trunk (I like that for weight distribution).
Steerings too light for my tastes, but the transmission shift points are good, Visability stinks, even worse than the new Mustang, IMHO.

But the motor gets it, no denying. It would be fun to rent one of these on a Friday, change tires and take it to the strip, ala the legendary Hertz Shelby 500H.
By the way, it was the Budget at Hartsfield, FYI you ATL dudes...had a bunch of 'em...What was Budget THINKING....

...What was Budget THINKING....

Probably were given a great deal by DCX on them. It builds sales figures, and gives people a chance to drive them other than for a dealer test drive.

Sounds like it had typical 'Chrysler' quality. In that they are consistent.

My MM#1 had the front flap of the seat come loose 3 times, first time happened when the car was about a month old. My second MM was already like that at exactly 15k miles when I bought it. Considering the rough use that rental cars undergo, I'd say the DCX product is on par with or slightly above Ford quality.

Having actually owned new Chrysler products, and driven many others, I wouldn't say that.

You have no way of knowing how many times that car was rented.

The Camaro concept looks much better in person. I was able to see it during the industry previews at the Detroit Auto show yesterday. The look still needs to be calmed down. But, it is more impressive in person than in pictures. The Challenger is still much better and still my favorite of this year.

That's the stupid song a handful of ricer shows use, on Speed!! The biggest styling cue I don't like is the mirrors, but overall me likey-likey!

Hmm... By 2009 I'll have no car-related debt... ;)
