Guys and Gals,

Please help.
My son wants to purchase this cheap CAI but I am against it.

1. The tube is metal. Won't this transmit heat?
2. The filter looks to exit behind the wheel. This can't be good for all weather conditions, can it?

Does anyone know of an inexpensive CAI kit I can recommend to him?

The cost of the product speaks in volumes. You get what you pay for.

I have the Solution,

Visit RK Sport.Com (http://rksport.com/). They have everything you could ever want for the 3.8 Camaro.
Most of their parts have been tested and proven to improve power.

Do you agree with my thoughts about the metal passing hot air and the filter being behind the wheel.

I told him you'll suck up water and junk within 1 day.

I don't have a 3.8 in my 4th gen, but here are my thoughts.

The text of the auction is a mess. Whether this person's grasp of the language is good or not, it calls into question the nature of the business: most likely this is not a product from a large corporation, a product that might have withstood rigorous testing and able to be backed up by a respectable warranty. But, everyone has a right to succeed so you may or may not use this as a deciding factor.

I cannot comment on the actual product details, but I see the intake filter through the front wheel well liner. From memory (the car is at home), the fender liners are completely solid all the way around, unlike the Marauder's driver's side. This would imply having to hack through that fender liner. Some might be okay with this, but I'm not one of them. 13 hp gain? I doubt it.

$17.35... well, I guess you get what you pay for. That alone should give you an idea of how I feel about this mod.

Edit: Sorry Mac, didn't mean to copy word for word, looks like you and I had the same thought on the matter.

He might as well remove a headlight and drive around like that all day. It'll look as ghetto as his filter poking out from under the fender.

RKSport. I LOVE their product. The only thing I'll install on my friend's GM's

The 3.8L can make some decent power, and are long lasting. IMHO, this cheapo kit is niether...

If not already there, tell your son to go here:

What are some of the details on the Camaro? I'm guessing it's an auto, with 3.08 or 3.23 in the rear, yes?

I don't believe he know's the gearing in the rear, but it is dark green with t-tops, automatic, 120,000 miles.

What should he add for speed improvement within a budget such as a 16 year old without a job has.

Some of the same mods we do are the effective ones for the camaro... Intake, chip and gears.

If theres very little steady income, than perhaps changing gears (and losing a couple mpg may not be as attractive). It will greatly improve the quick 0 - 60 type launches... You may want to check out Tom Byrne (he had a good rep, when I was into Camaro's) http://www.tbyrne.com/v6catalog.html.
