Yeah it's nice but am up there at least once a week for some stupid motorcyle that has run off the roadway and is laying about 100 feet down the mountain. The motorcycles go crazy up there they will pass you in a blind curve not knowing if theres anything coming at them in the opposite lane.

It looks like the perfect 2AM run. No body holding you up and few oncoming (except maybe guys like us in the opposite direction) Easy test for balance of power and brakes. I have always had roads like this to play on till moving to "Columbus was wrong...the world is FLAT." I miss them. Dennis:D

Those kinda of roads were made for my modified ZX3 :D I need some practice and a little suspension work before I'd push the MM through that.

I've had this place in my favorites since I moved to Tennessee and heard about it. The stories ranges from fanciful to downright idiocy. Motorcycle tires hanging 100 ft up in a tree, from where they went off the road of a sheer cliff.

Here are the notes about the fatalities in 2005:
BULLETIN SATURDAY AUGUST 13: The third fatality of the year on the Dragon at 10 am. Jeremy Stuck, 31, from Dixon, Illinois, riding a ZX10R low-sided at Crud Corner and slid under an oncoming pick-up truck.

JULY 22: BULLETIN - Tragedy Strikes the Dragon - Two riders lost their lives on the Dragon within 24 hours. David Workman age 48 of Alva, Fla, who had been riding with his 14 year old son on the back of his BMW had been reported missing on Thursday night. At 11 a.m. Friday his son crawled to the roadway and summonded help. His father had run off the road at Rocket Corner and been killed. Another death occurred at about 1:15 pm Friday when 62 year old Jack Wolfe of Hagerstown Maryland ran off the road with his Buell just south of the Overlook. This should be a reminder to all riders how dangerous the Dragon can be. Please slow down and ride within your limits.

We are sorry to report that a Canadian rider lost his life in a single motorcycle accident on Hwy 28 near Deals Gap early Monday (June 6) morning. As reported to us by the NCHP, Michael Landry, age 41, from Ontario lost control of his motorcycle and slid into an embankment.

I enjoy a scenic mountain drive as much as the next guy, but I'm really wary of crusin' through there while some semi is trying to make a sharp corner or a motorcyle rider trying to set a new speed record wipes out into my lane.

I haven't driven the Dragon, but I have driven the Natchez Trace (very pleasant) and the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway (many pucker moments). I agree that it might be a bit hairy because of other folks not watching their limits.

I drove 129 a few years ago as reported here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5196&highlight=dragon) and I think that it's pretty safe for cars. You aren't going fast enough to kill yourself. On a bike you can kill yourself pretty easily though.

I visit numerous bike sites and the Dragon is the place for eastern riders. NO WAY would I rdie there. To many "squids." I believe the "record" for a bike is just under ten minutes. No idea for a car.
