We are considering other options for internet service options. I understand Cable, Dial up and DSL... But what about services such as DirectWay? ISP through Satellite.

It seems pretty expensive. Is it worth it?

IMHO, I'd go with DSL, cable then satellite, in that order. Use satellite as a last resort because it's too expensive.

I look at it this way, do you watch DirecTV when it's raining? If so does it cut out?

The question I had when they called me and asked me to sign up, if the tv cuts out due to rain wouldn't the internet??

They couldn't answer...

What kind of speed can be had with DSL?

Satellite is only "high speed" one way. Your "return" or "upstream" is only 100 kbps, not even twice dial-up speed.

Internet via Satellite: http://www.starband.com/findadealer/index.asp

Check out Verizon's page for DSL availability to you. It isn't available everywhere because of distance from the Central Office.

Satellite is way to dependent on weather and line of site.

It's bad enough my tv signal is half assed...I can just imagine how many times I would have flung my laptop through the window. :shake:

I agree. I have Direcway. I also have a good line of sight. Weather does effect it but not ulness it's really bad out, maybe (so far) two times these last three months.
I've see they offer an additional service for $10.00 more to give you 200Kbps
I personally don't need that much.
DSL is not available in my area and in the past cable in my area was not the best choice either, a lot of line breakage and BS at the office.
It's a little pricey to start up and the mo/fee is higher than the others, but like cable(I suppose) it's always on and dosen't interfere with landlines. downlload times very, I actually get about 89 Kbps all the time

Hope this helps
