Okay, so I want to get 4.10 gears. These are the two parts I will need right? The gears, friction modifier, and the gasket to go along with them.

http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=partdetail. asp&part=RAT-5122

and that's it right? Also, how much will I have to pay for installation and what not? Anyone in here from Florida that can give me the name of a good shop, besides the one Roy L Pita works at?

Good luck with the cut of the gears. From what I've read and experienced, it's a toss up on quality.

I bought the gears (which included the crush collar), pinion bearing and race, 2 carrier bearings and races, pinion seal, gasket, 3 quarts of Redline 80w140 oil which has the friction modifier already added. My install was $250.00, because I bought Ford Racing gears there was no need for any additional adjustments.
Since the rear axles will need to be removed remember to check for any wear especially if you have an '03 MM.

Okay one thing is really confusing me. The part says it's for a 30 spline axle but don't Marauders only have a 28 spline? Then when I click on a 28 spline axle there's no option for 8.8 rear end! What the heck am I supposed to be ordering? Someone please help me before I blow $250 on something I can't use!

At least Steve got to me by PM correctly. I'll let him slide on this one.

What does Dennis charge for the 4.10s? He might have free shipping available, too.

Summit has the gears for $184.88. the friction modifier will work too. The gasket, however is not needed because RTV is used instead.

My bad. Dennis charges $210 but Summit Racing has it for $184. It's for the 8.8 rear end but 30 spline. I'm not sure if it will work. They have another set for 4.10s for 28 spline but only in 9.0 and 7.5 rear axles. Which one should I get?

Call Wes, tell him you need 4.10s for the MM and he'll hook you up. Support a vendor ;)

Try Wes, too before going to Summit.

Which one should I get?That must be a typo on their part...I've never heard of 30-spline axles...only 28- and 31-spline. Besides, the GEARS don't care...as long as they're for a Ford 8.8", they'll fit.

But as Rider90 and RoyL said, support a vendor and get them from Dennis or Wes...

I'd go with DR. He knows what is right for your car, can set it up right, and you know you can call him if there's problems.
Besides, don't think Summit contributes to this site as much as he does, yes?

All right, just a few more questions. How many people recromend getting the $120 install kit and or the stronger rear girddle? If I don't get these and have Roy's shop do a straight swap of the pinon gears, will I have any reliability issues? The reason I am asking this is I started reading other threads on gear swaps and I became curious.

Although the rear girdle is certainly a worthwhile addition to any car, it not strictly necessary until you start getting into the higher HP levels made by power adders (blower, nitrous, etc), or if your car sees a lot of 1320 time. My personal opinion is that it's a "cheap insurance" item even on an N/A car and if you're having gears installed, it makes perfect sense to do the girdle and the stud kit then, too, but they can always be added afterwards.

I would suggest Ford Racing Parts
part number M-4209-G410 (right off the box)

Also while your there, Get yourself a TA Girdle and stud kit, it just finishes it off.

I used the Ford Fluid Modifier and 75/140 Ford Synth. gear oil

There are a few places around locally that would be glad to install the parts for you.

I use a shop called Boots Performance in Pompano. His work is excellent and reasonably priced

I would only use Ford Motorsport gears and no gasket is ever used its RTV

I know but the same gear is at Summit for a bit less. Then again, I'd probably pay shipping. You charge shipping Dennis? Oh yeah, Roy L Pita pmed me back telling me the same thing about the gasket that it is RTV. What does that mean btw?

Dennis Reinhart
01-20-2006, 10:42 AM
The cover is just sealed with RTV which is silicoln, shipping normally is about 20.00 average install price for most shops is about 300.00

All right, thanks for letting me know, I still need a quote back from Roy but yeah.
