View Full Version : Had Magnaflows welded on and..........

I had my two 18" magnaflows welded on to my marauder at a local exhaust shop and I am FAR from satisfied with the results. I purchased the 18" C/O mufflers (aluminized vs. SS), which are the straight-through design rather than the baffled model. Model number 11255. I still have the stock resonated tips. I am looking for some ideas that will yield a deeper, louder exhaust tone. If anyone could lend some advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

FYI a striaght through design is not going to be as deel a sound, especially on a smaller V8. It's sorta like a big glasspack...the resonators are probably helping the sound stay deeper though, take them off and it'll be a bit more raspy.

I'd say if you want a deeper mellow tone you probably want a chambered muffler like Flowmaster. The Magnaflows seem to have less of a mellow deep sound - can sound really good, but really exhaust tone quality is in the ear of the beholder.

This week I had a pair of Flowmaster Super 40's put
on my car. Hot rod sound....deep and mellow even
with stock megs tips. The sound I was looking for!

Gotta Love It!

Actually I am kind of glad to hear you say that. I have been running muffler-free for some time now. That definitely yields a loud, deep, throaty sound. However, since this is a daily driver car, it's gonna have to be more muffled. It was fun for a while, though. I will probably be having some Magnaflows or something similar installed soon. I want my Marauder to be a bit louder than stock mufflers, but not as overwhelming as it is right now.

All mufflers need some time to break in, give them some time and miles. One long road trip will do wonders in burning off the newness. If you still want more, get the resonator delete tips, and extend them an inch beyond the rear facia. That should deliver the sound, without the cabin drone.

The Magnaflows that I have (18" SS) are not loud, no drone, no gurgle. It is a smooth deep sound. The Sarge in my opinion gave you the best advise: the sound will deepen some as they wear in and resonator delete tips will give you a deeper gurgle.

If you want your car to sound like a pushrod engine, the Magnaflows are not the way to go.

Smokie:

What does your exhaust set up consist of, or is it just the 18" magnaflows?

It starts with, SVO Shorty Headers, 2 1/2' X-Pipe with 2 Hi-Flow cats into the Magnaflows, stock past the mufflers.

Yea, that definatly sounded too nice to be just mufflers.

I'm probably going to take sergents advice and give it some time. If im not happy after that I'll most likely ditch the magnaflows and install a set of super 40's

Thank again everybody.

I have Delta 40's on right now and they're mellow and low but I'm going with the Super 40's and deleted tips this spring. I like it loud... :)

As Peter from "Family Guy" would say, "That's flippin' sweet!"

I have Flowmaster 40 originals, and Megs resonator delete tips...thats it. I've never been a fan of the Magnaflow sound on the MM's. I chose to do the flowmaster 40 originals, with the delete tips at the same time, and extend my pipes out a bit. The difference in sound over stock is much different. Louder, very deep tone, with a bit of drone, but it doesn't bother me. I love it. Huge difference in sound compared to the money spent.

Well...that and lose the resonated tips.

Seriously,...mufflers only on a complete 4-cat stock 4.6 MM exhaust?
I'm not sure what you expected.

BTW: I have the 18" SS Magnaflows. I am not sure what they sound like. I can't hear them over the headers. :baaa:

Gotta say I do like the Magnaflow sound on the DOHC engines, they make one sweet sound!! I've heard Flows on them too, they sound sweet as well. Heck I guess I'm just sayin' the 32V DOHC motors sound sweet!

Yup, they need to break in. When I had Magflows they broke in very well. A little too well.

I went with ford duel mode mufflers.

Hey if you are getting Flow masters, this is the one we need right? http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/products/index.php?main_page=product_in fo&products_id=3377

We have 2.25 diamter pipes stock correct? I'm thinking of switching to flowmasters and resonator deletes. I have a pair of broken in Maganaflow 18s and they just aren't loud enough for a stock car. I'm still keeping the Magnaflows btw.

Care to tell us anything more about your car?

It's in my sig. Stock pipes, maganaflow 18 inch mufflers, K&N CAI, stock resonator tips, etc. I want to get my rear cats removed and replaced with straight pipe, have the tips without resonators installed and that's it as far as exhaust for the immediate future. I may change the mufflers to Flowmaster because they have a better sound for a stock car from what I understand.

Heck I guess I'm just sayin' the 32V DOHC motors sound sweet!Yep I have just 18 inch MF's and I loved them from instal to now. I kinda wish I got the chambered ones but I'm happy enough with my not so drony exhaust since my car stays above 65 most of the time. I posted my vids of them in the ssm section..I'll post the links here. Vids were done with all the mods listed in sig below.
