Wow, it's a good thing you were in a big safe car! Glad you walked away from this. Did you pop the airbags?

Is the insurance company going to total it? I'm guessing the front drivers seat is ruined too? :o

If you do get it back and part it out, I got dibs on the dash. :D

Glad you are o.k. Really sorry about your Marauder. Looks like the body is shifted off the frame. Was it icy in the tunnel? Glad there were no other cars involved.

Hang in there.

mercmatt,
First, I like to say how sorry I am that your car is all banged up. But ... I am glad that you are OK. I assume that you are UNhurt.
Second, would you mind sharing with us where you were? There is an easy way to show your location (home city/state) when you post as part of your sig. You might be able to help out the rest of us if you enlighten us on the tunnel, etc.
Hope you do OK insurance-wise.

Thanks for sharing this experience here.

Great to hear that you are all right!

The car held up a bit better than Princess Diana's Mercedes didn't it.

If they do take the car, keep a piece of it to remind you what saved you.

Good Job Ford!

Hope you are covered and try to have a sense of humor. After all you set some kind of record!

Wow!

Regards,

David

Maybe it can be sold for the next Men in Black thrash scene with the Black Car.

Hope you are all right and covered and try to have a sense of humor. After all you set some kind of record!

Wow, good point about the Mercedes, dont' think they were even going that fast.
Chaulk it off to superior equipment and better driver...
Hang in there dude, know what it's like to total a car at your age...you will get over it.

If I had this car when I was your age, the same thing probably would have happend to me. I'm glad you're OK, and I hope you learned something. I had to wreck more than one car before I did!

I am glad that you are OK and I am also glad that you seem to be taking the situation well. If it was me I would be little girl crying Pi$$ed. Then again, I do not have a Silver Brich (that is your SB in the background of those pics?) to drive while I look for another Marauder.

Sorry to see such sad pictures. Glad you are still with us though. If I had gone through what you described, I'd still be stuck in the E.R. trying to get my buttocks unclenched from the driver's seat leather.

thanks for the sympathy. the silver birch in the background is my dads. my location is west springfield massachusetts. the tunnel was rt.5 northbound. my dad said if i wanted he would think about selling me his car, but im not sure i want another one. to be completely honest im not sure im mature enough to handle a car like that. i always knew it was a matter of time before i wrecked it. maybe once i slow down with the partying ill look into another one. fyi i owe about 16000 so i think the insurance will at least pay off the loan. i will see what the buy back is if its totalled and either sell the whole car or parts.

Matt, I know how you feel. I was your age when in similar manner I wrecked my first car. I didn't even want to drive again for a while. You will be fine in a few days. I more cautious and more mature Matt but ok. The Marauder is a great car and very capable and can save the weak link behind the wheel. Offen the last place to dry on a road is under overpasses and particularily tunnels as the sun never shines in there and being typically lower moisture gathers there to feeze at night. Tough break. Good luck to you. Dennis

Glad you are okay, sorry about the car. My advice, until you slow down with the partying, perhaps you shouldn't drive any car. I've been on both sides of the "driving after partying" thing. I've wrecked a few, luckily with no-one hurt, and as a volunteer firefighter, been to more than enough tragic wrecks. Hopefully this is an eye-opener for you. It took me some "lost freedom" to figure it out. Sorry if this seems offensive to anyone. IMHO 120 mph in a tunnel is more than a little foolish.

Wow, I am quite surprised that it took so long for this to come out.

I am certainly glad that no one was injured or worse yet in this incident. However, 120+ mph in a tunnel is way out of line and irresponsible. He placed himself and others at serious risk. I am sure that Matt knows this now -- at least he is fortunate enough to be alive to make the connection. :)

Some 30 years ago, I was witness to a tunnel accident that didn't turn out as well. I was headed back to Virginia and passing through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel at about 3 AM. I was cruising at about 65 mph in my 1974 Dodge Charger with a car trailing me. One tube was closed for cleaning, so on this particular night, there was 2-way traffic in the remaining tunnel.

Just before entering the tunnel, a car sped on by with 3 people in it -- probably 80 mph or so. His taillights were fading into the distance, when all of the sudden there was a brilliant flash of light and the tunnel was filled with fire. A head-on collision at high speed in the tunnel.

I buried the nose of the Charger and glanced in the rearview to see if the car to my rear was gonna stop. He did ... and we both jumped out of our cars to "assist". One of the tunnel attendants that used to sit in little glass booths yelled "Hey, where are you going?" Then he followed with "Get back to your cars, ain't nothing you can do, emergency folks are on the way".

Me and the other guy (a Coast Guard guy) sat on the hood of my car for more than an hour. There were no survivors of this crash and not much left to bury either. I remember what I saw like it was yesterday. :(

Sorry for the long story ... thought that it needed to be said. :soapbox:

Flame suit now on !!

^^^what Paul Casey and Bluerauder said^^^

There's a REASON why 120 MPH is illegal on public streets: I don't care WHO you are, it is NOT SAFE to drive at that speed. Anyone who actually IS properly trained and competent to drive at that speed KNOWS it isn't safe and will NOT do it. There are too many bozos out there, many of whom shouldn't even be a PASSENGER in a car, let alone be driving one (not directed at you, mercmatt).

I do have to give mercmatt props for recognising that what he did was incredibly stupid and perhaps this will serve as an object lesson to others here who think it won't happen to them.

Sorry if I come off all preachy and holier-than-thou, but I, like Paul Casey, have seen too many fatal wrecks that were caused by one person doing something stupid. I've BEEN that stupid person more than once, in a former life, and it was only by the grace of God I was never in a serious accident or ever injured anyone.

I agree with Paul and Charlie. No flames at all for you, Charlie. What a thing to have witnessed.

I'm glad you're OK, Matt, though I'm taken aback that you would share this with us. Maybe empathy, but certainly not sympathy. Not meaning to be harsh here, but you held your destiny in your own two hands. Thank goodness it was only at the price of your car and not your life. Your Marauder saved your life.

Mary, Bob, Paul, Charlie et al. are all right, but silly me, always thinking like a lawyer. If your insurance company reads this post (and yes, stuff like that happens), they could disclaim based on your own admission. Not to mention what the authorities could do.

Oy, have I taught the members here nothing about what is not appropriate to post?

Yep. Me, too. Nothing like putting a car ( well a 1976 Olds Starfire) on it's roof at 120.... and walking away to teach you a lesson.
Another reason why big gears are cool, they keep the top end down!

I agree with RF Overlord, email and forum posts are somewhat permanent once sent, and feelings/opinions/ideas may change over time. Be careful what you send out to the world to read. Think about having this deleted.

Sorry about your ride. Happy you are O.K. and happy the Panther platform is so strong. Five star crash rating right?

Oy, have I taught the members here nothing about what is not appropriate to post? Well, maybe not enough?

Wasn't it just about a week ago when a certain thread here twisted off into a "100+ MPH in a tunnel"?

Sorry, I can't help feeling that some of the stuff we post (whether true or not) influences others to try to be as "cool". All these "kill stories" and brags of street racing might be fun to share, but someone will someday believe them, and try to out do them.

I think mercmatt has learned a valuable lesson, but have we?

My advice to you SergntMac is to stop reading CNN because you might believe one day that you will become a World Dictator. Or better yet, turn in your personal firearms because they don't save lives. Oh, stop reading Playboy because you might go blind. Do you hear the Wizard of Oz while playing the soundtrack of the Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd)?
