Driven a few of those as rental cars Rich, good solid cars if you need the room.
Could have bought a Marauder for that price. You asked for thoughts.

I've owned three Mountaineers, collectively over 100K miles. Fine automobiles, not one bad experience with any of them.

Rich,
I have an '04 Mountaineer Premier AWD and really like it.
Gas mileage could be better, but at 4,700 lbs...
It gets 20 - 22 mpg on the road but around town it sucks, 13 - 15 mpg.
Issue we had was paint coming off the roof. L/M Dealer repainted the entire roof. No issues other than that.
If you want to discuss, PM me your # and I'll call you.
Mike.

Mountaineer is nice. The wife almost got one black on black. I like it! However, with the A/Z plan discounts on remaining Lincoln LS's, she liked that better. We may go for the Mountaineer in the future.
