View Full Version : A Serious Question About Drugs

I need a drug that is not FDA approved here in the United States. Canada's drug laws are apprently a bit looser than the U.S. laws. Canada has approved the drug, but by prescription only.

I am not terribly concerned about insurance coverage for the drug as I will pay out of pocket, but I need to figure out whether a Canadian pharmacy will approve a U.S. prescription.

Has anyone ever ordered prescription drugs cross-border and if so, how?

This is a serious thread, so please keep it that way.

Thanks.

Marty, spoke with a phone rep. she said if you have prescription for a drug that is legally used in Canada, they will accept U.S prescription. http://www.canadianpharmacytrust.com/questions.html

Best of luck my friend, Javier.

If you want to transport prescription drugs into the US and do not want to go through customs, I do know of some 'back roads' in Vermont that are only known by the locals and are not patroled by Customs.

Javier: That is where I am at a stumbling block. My doctor highly recommends the medication but I am not sure he can write a prescription for a drug that is not FDA approved. Does you know?

Maybe your Dr. can find a Dr. in Canada that will write the prescription?

Here ^^^ is your answer Marty. Most Canadian Pharamcies need a perscription written by a Canadian doctor to be legal. There are certain legal hoops to jump through, and this is one of them. The Canadian Doctor may only be verifying your Doctors' diagnosis and credentials, but still must be licensed in Canada.

Check out prices too, if it's a new drug. Some provinces subsidize the cost of new drugs differently, so you may get it for much less that you're expecting just over the next provincial border.

Dan, first of all thanks.

I called someone at the FDA and it seems that I may be eligible for an importation exemption. I will be getting the paperwork package and will begin the process right away.

And, Javier thanks for the lead as well, it may prove to be my "source."

Well, OK. But I'm not a medical doctor, I just play one on MM.net.

Why not come here for treatment? If you aren't concerned about costs, there are private clinics in Ontairo, Quebec, Alberta and B.C. All you pay is a yearly fee of $2300, and enrolment around $1200 IIRC, plus treatment costs. Plus, your Northern Cousins are a friendly bunch!!

There have been recent studies that the treatment differs widely from Province to Province, so depending on what's wrong and which drug you need you'll get better and faster treatment depending on which one you pick.

Why not come here for treatment?

This isn't one of those things that will be treated and get better. It is one of those things that you basically look to treat the symptoms medically to make them more tolerable. I just need to the U.S. to allow me to have my medicine.

Yea, but it would have been like in the movies. Fast Car out running the police down a dirt road, jumping bridges and pretty farmers daughters.

That is an idea too, but I need to be able to do this without being a pain every month when I get refills.

Before I changed to Blue Cross/Caremark, I had to buy Celebrex for my arthritis from MedCenter Canada. My father, up until the new Medicare prescription plan, used them to buy Lipitor.

MedCenter Canada required only a prescription from your doctor be faxed to them, and payment. Shipping was relatively fast, the prices fair for non-insurance coverage. Interestingly my orders were filled at Guy's Pharmacy in New Zealand. The capsules were authentic, but came in foil packs instead of bottles.

You may want to check out this site and do a drug search for whatever you are seaking:

Marty,

There are several canadian online pharmacies. some offer a 'consult' with a doctor via e-mail. A few years ago when I needed to get refills, I went his route. All legal, the doctors and pharmacies are legal in Canada. Also, the reason I went this route, the cost of buying my drugs from Canada was about a third of what they would have cost here.

Rod.

This is NOT a Canadian based internet pharmacy. With all the hype that our percriptions are cheaper here, many phony "Canadian" pharmacies have popped up over the years. This is one of them. The drugs are most likely fine themselves, as they are made by the same company whether in NZ, CA or the US.

If the internet address isn't registered in Canada, and the drugs don't ship from Canada - it's not from Canada!!!
