I am looking at another 1999 Taurus SHO.
The owner says that the Cam Welding thing only applies to pre-1999 models.
This Taurus is a late 1999 production (August) car.
All I can find tells me that the Taurus V8 Cam problem applies to 1999's as well.
Can anyone help me with this?
I don't want to buy a car that is ready to self-destruct!
Thanks and Best Regards,
David

My recollection agrees with yours: the issue applies to all the V8s unless they've been fixed.

Have you checked this site out yet?:

Looks like they're tracking cam failures everywhere...

Looks like they're tracking cam failures everywhere...
Can anyone find out the actual ratio of numbers of failures to the number produced?
Is this a large problem or a largely broadcast problem?
Thanks,
David

How much does he want for it? If it's worth it to you, why no just weld the CAMs...?

All V8 SHO's were affected by this issue. Plenty of 99's have failed.

How much does he want for it? If it's worth it to you, why no just weld the CAMs...? It cost about $650 on avg. to weld the cams not real cheap

I am trying to get the present owner to get them done before I buy it and split the price with me.
We'll see...
Thanks,
Dave

I had a used '99 for a year and a half. I got rid of it before it reached 50K, always afraid it would go bad.
reference this site, the best V8SHO info!
