What kind/type of spark plugs should I be running in my MM and why are they better? Where can I get them?

Do a search for plugs. Lots of info on this site.

Also check FAQ ! on top right

Your application is important. Leave them stock till you mod up.
They are fine, and warranted for 100,000 miles.

....and definately utilize this sites search engine. "The answers are out there", you just got to find them.

Thanks, but I'm going to go to Reinhart's place within the next couple of weeks and wanted specific information on the plugs I've read about on this site. Too bad no one wants to simply shoot me the name and application number. I've searched the site and found only the name. I was also interested in what made those plugs so superior to the stock plugs.

If your car is stock, then you already have the correct plugs in it. If you have one of Dennis's chips, then you need to put in either the Motorcraft AWSFA-12C copper plugs, (2 steps colder than stock), or the Denso IT-20 Iridium plugs (MUCH more expensive, but seem to give a small performance boost). If you're going to see Dennis anyway, why not let him suggest the best course of action for you?

RF: Thanks for the detailed info! I was hoping to save a bit of $$ by finding my own plugs; however, if I can only hope to get a "small performance boost" I'm not sure it would be worth the extra $100 or so ................ Are you recommending the IT-20s because of the chip installation? Denso calls for the IT-16, but I suppose that's for a stock motor.

Yup!

Here's your best advice, drk, from a guy who reads more than some of us believe he usually absorbs.

Every word he typed is true, I promise, but take that as you will.

You don't seem to be as trusting as others have been, and that's okay. Lots of s**t out on the 'net, I agree.

Denso IT20 plugs WILL produce more performance for you, I got 7 HP and 12 TQ numbers from screwing them in, but keep in mind that other mods were in place on my MM before this test and tune.

Like the man said, if you're going to see Dennis anyway, why not let him suggest your best course of action?

I just completed a "search" for 411 on plugs, and there is a lot of 411 here after all. But, if you are going to visit Dennis, why not confirm this 411 from him too, eh? I would.

Sarge: Thanks for the feedback. Not a matter of trust, just wanted to be sure if $$ was to be laid out in advance. I'm simply trying to learn all I can about my MM so I can get the best bang for the buck in terms of making a few mods. Not looking to build a race car, but if it just had a bit more juice ............. I definitely will see what Dennis has to say when he installs the chip and stat. I did see lots of 411 on plugs and the like here, but nowhere did I see the exact application. Anyway, I appreciate everyone's patience with another MM rookie!

Let me clarify an earlier statement...you can use Dennis's chip without changing plugs, but you won't get the full performance benefit from it. Changing to the A12C plugs will allow the chip to operate at its full potential, but the plugs don't provide any performance improvement in and of themselves, and should not be installed without a chip. The Denso plugs, I am told by people who have installed them (like Sarge), do actually provide a performance boost over the copper plugs...whether they make enough of a difference for your money, only you can decide...I'm going to install them before going to the FordChip tuning session next month...

OK, thanks for the clarification. That all makes good sense and I'll just hold off until Dennis installs the chip and stat. I appreciate all the info!
