Sharing some wonderful news...

There will be one more Emergency Medical Technician out there...

I PASSED!!

I have my temporary permit to practice and that expires in 2007, but I will be tested in two weeks for certification to become licensed in the state of Wisconsin (NREMT) that is good for, I believe, the next two years. After two years I just need to take a short refresher course.

I estimate that I have around 100 hours on an ambulance already, but have not been riding because I have had to go to school every Saturday and still do full-time during the week in IL. I have been on a Rescue Squad now for a little over a year and used to volunteer every saturday for 8 hours, now I'm going to see if I can change my career.

Wooohoooo!

Definately.

I'm a Manager right now for a taxi dispatch office that dispatches 1100+ cabs in the Suburbs and the city of Chicago. I worked my way from phone operator to manager in a little over a year, although I am proud when the stress settles down, a wise man once told me "Being a Manager isn't often rewarding, it just means you're on top of the ***** pile." So I just want to move onto something different and after doing a few ride-a-longs in an Ambulance and once with an LEO, I decided I wanted to be an EMT. I'll continue my education and persue EMT-IV Tech (Starting IV's) and possibly Paramedic, but will also look into being a police officer and fireman.

Congrats! In our area most paid firemen also double as paramedics in the smaller depts. That would give you two out of three of your choices. :D pays better too.

Not to diminish what you've already accomplished; but you might want to think about Nurse Practitioner training. It's a very rewarding and good paying profession, and in high demand, in these parts. Many positions in industry.

Congratulations Jason. I did 9 yrs in the volenteer fire service prior to becoming an LEO. The VFD was actually a good stepping stone to the PD.

You'll learn alot.

Good luck!

CONGRATULATIONS! I'm sure it was a lot of work to get where you are. Why stop here....try to be a full blown Nurse, they are in VERY high demand here in central Ohio.

Once again, congrats and be safe!

Hey by the way, dont let any stigma about the nurse idea slow you down. You know, only women are nurses'... BS! I know of 2 corrections officers (one that held the rank of Sgt.) with a good amount of time on the job, quit after attaining their nurseing certificate (not sure to what level, you get the idea).

CONGRATS!!! If you decide to become a nurse you might want to look into being a traveling nurse. They work all over the country, free housing, free insurance, signing bonuses, etc. The article says some make up to 100K a year.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I'll be an EMT for awhile then I'll look into other choices, including being a nurse, I've spent a few nights in the ER getting clinical time and of course dropping people off, it's usually an "exciting" enviroment so theres an option. Thanks guys :)
