I'm bored too, so, here goes.

IMHO, the "nationality" of an automobile is defined by it's designers with their particular view on automotive technology and the art of driving on the home turf. We admire some cars because they are American in design. We admire other cars for what the Germans, or Japaneese add to the technology. On a lesser scale, even the Koreans pitch in something called "added value." (PC for cheap, inexpensive, disposable)

The nationality of the car is not directly linked to it's point of assembly, nor even where the dollars land with the parent company. Jaguar is a Ford company now, but it will always be a Jaguar, and it will always reflect the British influence on automobiles. BMW will always be the German spin, and Honda will always be the Japaneese spin. No matter where it's put together, the Marauder wll always be an American car built for American drivers, and for American roads.

As usual, Sarge is right on. Cars will always be identified by their design origins, not manufacturing origins. Cars are now manufactured wherever the market is to avoid costly import tariffs.

I go by whether the car is built by UAW (American or Canadian) workers. Many "American-made" cars are not UAW shops.

I think it is funny that my car is more import than a new Honda. My car is made in the USA, but my motor is made in Japan.
