View Full Version : Countdown to Kentucky!!!

OK, I would suggest pouring your favorite beverage, as this will be the longest post I have submitted to date...:D
First of all, I would like to thank everyone who is coming to "Loose-ville" for the first regional meet being held here. Who knows, this may very well turn into an annual event as we are now 40 people strong, near 16 MM's with all colors being represented from approx. 11 states!
Secondly, there is only a few days left before the remaining two rooms at the Holiday Inn will be withdrawn from the "Marauder" group and placed back into the Hotel's hands. We now have 18 rooms confirmed of 20, and if you are sitting on the fence for this, you will have to about Wednesday this week, or the rooms will be long gone.
Friday afternoon near 1:00PM, we will travel to Bardstown to tour the Kentucky Railway Museum. If anyone wishes to participate, please be at the Hotel no later than 12:30 that afternoon.
Friday night dinner will be at the Limestone Restaurant around 7:00PM. We have a private room for the group that should have more than enough room if everyone can make it.
http://www.limestonerestaurant.com/
I am quite sure not all will be in town by this time. However, it would benefit all of us in posting here if you cannot make dinner on Friday.
It should by now, be safe to assume that everyone will be here for Saturday's festivities and dinner that evening at Claudia Sander's Restaurant in Shelbyville, KY immediately following the Distillery tours?
http://claudiasanders.com/
Dinner is scheduled for around 5:00PM as we will stop there prior to returning to "Loose-ville" for more sippin' of KY. Bourbon.
I have attached the itinerary below for future reference.
I have added a list of members that I have attending the meet with number of guests accompanying them (below). If there are inaccuracies in this list, please post as soon as you can so that I can make necessary adjustments.
Whew...That should be about it for now and if I forgot anything, I will update with new posts as necessary.
Mary, could you make this a sticky please?
Twenty five days and counting....
Best,
Mike (MM2004).

The intinerary sounds great, but how many people are going to want to eat breakfast on Sunday moring? All that greasy bacon and sausage, runny eggs, heavily buttered toast, soggy grits and cold coffee.

Your guest chart it says number of guests 2 for me, am I included as one? I will be bringing a friend and his g/f with me, we will probably be getting in around noon or so friday.

You and the Mrs. should not have a problem as the restaurant is about 5 miles from the Hotel, and we should have plenty of room.

OK, A few things that everyone needs to know when traveling to Looseville. ;)
In Jefferson County and the City Of Looseville, we have the RFG crap fuel for all cars. I would suggest topping off your tanks, prior to reaching Jefferson County and the Looseville City Limits.
I-65 South Travelers, gas up before reaching the Ohio River while still in Hoosier Land.
I-71 South Travelers, gas up around Lagrange or Oldham County, KY.
I-65 North Travelers, gas up around Elizabethtown KY, or closer to Jefferson County near Shepherdsville, KY.
I-64 West Travelers, Gas up around Lexington or Frankfort, KY.
I-64 East Travelers, gas up before reaching the Ohio River while still in Hoosier Land.
WARNING! The State Police Posts are located at Lagrange, KY on I-71 as well as Frankfort, KY on I-64.
Them boys and girls love to write speeding tickets.
The Hotel, as everyone should know by now, is off of Hurstbourne Lane at I-64. When getting off Of I-64 (If Heading East Bound) make sure and take the left fork of the ramp that will send you North on Hurstbourne lane.
At the bottom of the ramp, you will see a Chevron Gas Station on your right. Don't blink, or you will do a fly-by. Turn into this Gas station to access the Holiday Inn Hotel.
For the I-64 West Bound travelers, there is a light at the bottom of the ramp for Hurstbourne Lane. Hang a "Ralph" then another "Ralph" into the Chevron as mentioned above.
**There is only one ramp for Hurstbourne Lane**!
Many of you have my number, and please, feel free to call if you are in need of assistance.
FINAL NOTE: I wish everyone a very safe and enjoyable road trip to Looseville. Please use your better judgement;
Keep your eyes peeled,
Have both hands on the wheel,
Seatbelts fastened and,..
"Punch" that sucker to the carpet,.. :D ;) .
Otherwise,.....
3, 2, 1 BLAST OFF! :burnout:
Best,
Mike.

And for those coming up I-65 from the south, Exit 94 in Elizabethtown!;)
FYI, there is road construction with lane shifts on I-65 from mile marker 97 to 102 and there is a NO-FLY ZONE :nono: from mile marker 124 to 131. The last mile marker on I-65 going north in Kentucky is the 137 at the Ohio River in Louisville. The I-264 exit on I-65 is the 131, and the I-265 exit is the 125.
I'll see ya'll Friday at the Limestone.

OK,
I just found out a couple of hours ago that the Mayor of Bardstown and the Chief of Police have agreed to meet up with us on Sunday morning at 11:30AM sharp, to give us an escort thru the center of town. ;)
During this time, we will be video-taped while we make a couple of laps around the circle then head back to the parking lot of the Police Headquarters for some hand shaking and car bragging rights.:D
Not 100% sure, be we may even get to meet the Mayor while parked.
My Sister-in-Law, Brenda, deserves a round of applause in making this and the video taping a reality. :high5:
We will then visit a couple of distilleries/museums, and from this point most people will begin their journey home.
I cannot express my appreciation to the people who are traveling from afar in making this meet a reality.
At the beginning, I was aprehensive in attempting to schedule a meet in Looseville. With the help of many people, this has been a very exciting time for me, and would do it again next year if we have the same enthusiasm as I have seen thus far. :)
I am looking forward to finally meeting each and everyone of you, and will happen inside of just 48 hours.
Peace,
Mike.

Already have the first story.
I was backing my Town Car into Macs garage and took the weatherstripping right off. I was there picking up his Silver car to drive.
(Cause my car is a POS) And...I think we have the last story to tell on this OTR trip too.
It's now Sunday, 3/26. It's 1855 Hr. on my watch at the moment, but back around noon today, we we're still back in Indiana. One silver birch, one black, two MMs both northbound on I-65, hammer lane.
Just clearing the Seymour ramps and it's truely a perfect l a z y day behind the wheel OTR. Sun burning our faces while chilly winter air is breezin' through cracked windows, and no one I mean no one in sight front to rear. True open road driving. We're crusing at the premier triple digit (which is 100 MPH for those of you who cannot interpret my poetic license duh?) until...
I swear, this cruiser dropped on us from the clear blue sky, really! Out of the clear blue sky. There was no where for him to hide that I cannot get a feel for (been there, did this) yet, he appeared from nowhere.
This has happened to me only once before, in Nebraska, when I was coming home from the O.J. trials. I can usually smell a perfect hideout. Not a sniff back then, or, today.
Anyway...I look up in my mirrors (while wondering why I need to check them jeeze, we haven't seen another car in two miles let alone pass anyone, can't see anything up ahead either) and what do I see five feet off my azz?
So close to me I cannot see his light bar in my mirrors, just his headlights, and his grin. I can't even give a shout-out up front to Zack, we are owned.
I signal and steer into the snooze lane (I-65 is two lane here), either giving him his lane for a greater emergency, or, my azz for speeding...No problem here, he's the resident, I'm just an occupant. No brakes, just coasting now, still over 90 MPH.
InSP comes along side me now, and I see sign language, and some lip reading...get a visual here please?
"Are"
"You"
"A"
"Cop"
"yes, sir"
"O k a y "
And he's drives on after mutual salutes.
He breezes by Zack (in front of me and still holding 90+) N.Q.A., and took the next ramp.
We didn't see another LEO after this, and made it home in under 4 hours.
Whomever you are, sir...Officer...Trooper...
Thank you.
UPDATE...While Zack and I repaired my garage door so I could at least get my #3 car off the street tonight, BigDogJim calls me from his road trip home, a work in progress at this moment.
Aopparently, this story will not be the last story afterall. I'd like to hear more about the eye-balls into saucers, Jim. Please?

Well, Chris and I had a great time. Thanks Mike!! Where do I start, the distillery tours were great, tasting 140 proof bourbon was smooth, putting faces to names was enjoyable and meeting old friends and making new ones was priceless.
We made it home at 12:30am Monday morning through some rain showers and a few snow flurries, but nothing serious to talk about. At abouy 11pm at exit 24 on Rt 68 in Maryland we pulled over to change drivers and were on the entrance ramp to the highway. We hear the truckers talking on the CB about a 'wrapper sitting on the entrance ramp', I let them know we are not the police.
Later on we catch up to the group of truckers and the one tells the other,
1st trucker, 'Remember that car you thought was a bear, he's right behind you.'
2nd tucker comes back, 'There's a bear behind me!'
1st trucker, 'No that car you thought was a bear.'
Seconded (lead) trucker moves over for us.
Me, 'Thank you for moving over and we are not a bear.'
Yesterday washed the car again to get the road salt off of her, sitting in the garage nice and clean with the cover on. Found a coulpe of new chips and scratches in the paint. That's the price you pay if you drive it and enjoy it.
We are ready for next years bourbon run in Kentucky. :2thumbs:
