Most Chevrolet owners, like Harley riders, are homosexuals. The Southerners are the highest percentage. They won't hurt you, just keep it in mind if you go. Remember Ned Beatty in "Deliverance"? Burt Reynolds saved him. ;)

GreekGod.... you sure got's a purdy mouth :D

Tallboy, word had it the Gassiteers are already working on an upgraded appletini maker :)

All kidding aside, it was great to have so many Marauders show up last year. Even more great was to see guys doing some SERIOUS perfomance mods !!! And we were honored that an MM ET record was set at SSHS5 :2thumbs:

There are a few changes from last years event. First we have raised the minimum weight to 4000lbs for the heads up classes, but it now includes driver. This means you will NOT have to get out of the car when going to weigh in (yay !!!) Second, NHRA has revised the rules concerning nitrous, non-OEM supercharged, and non-OEM turbocharged cars. As of now, ALL cars drivers that fit the above catagory must wear an SFI approved fire jacket, regardless of ET/MPH. We have no control over this, as Atlanta Dragway is an NHRA owned facility, and they do tech hard. Below is the new ruling from the NHRA rulebook:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 1A, located on page 24 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook read as follows:
10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) and slower; all E.T. non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM
turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars with an OEM or .024-inch steel firewall:
Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory
------------------------------------------------------------------------

We look forward to having ya'll come back for some more southern hospitality, and friendly competition this year !!!!
Now back to your regularly scheduled Blue Oval/ Bowtie bashing

SSee ya, Scott

glassman99,

Our little Impala club is going to attend a shindig at Hayes Chrysler ( YES... Chrysler.. they invited us ) near Gainsville on March 18. We are wooing them for sponsorship, and trying to coax them into bringing a Chrysler something or other out to race :P If you would like to join us it would be cool !!! PM me if you are interested in hanging out for the day and want details.

Oh its on! Prepare to get served!! I'm bringing some extra 'heat' this time, and we'll be running big dawg this year, forget brackets...

Yeah, it sure was a pain that the race broke into the party time!

This is THE event boys, quite a lot of fun.

Hmm, how many 11 second Marauders are going to show up this year.....hmmm, maybe a few 12'ers, possibly a 10 second car or two?

Better pack a lunch, a very big lunch, and a snack, and possibly dinner. Cause its gonna be a bigger job than you think!

I've never heard so many open exhaust, drag slick wearing, high 13 second cars in my life. I nearly fell asleep waiting for them at the tall end of the 1/4 :sleepy:

Hey its all good  and lots of fun, nowhere I'd rather be those days than hanging with the Impala's. I've got my PoSSe and East Coast Heavyweights Tshirts ready to go!

What a lot of fun this event is. I guess us big car boys like to stick together, since we know there's more to life than going fast. We go fast WITH STYLE!

As an ex-Mustang owner (86 red GT 12 sec car) and an original owner 92 5.0 LX that I had for 9 years I don't hate the blue oval. But I will be eating a few in November. Heh heh heh!

I'll be there. On tip to my fellow Marauderers. As an act of kindness to our Wimpala brethren, we must realize they are starting to age. (The drivers, not necessarily the cars). As they age, their eyesight starts to fail. I think it would be a nice gesture on our part if we all put bright inserts in our embossed Marauder bumpers to assist them in seeing us at the finish line. I was happy last year to see so many of the Chevy folk putting that little lighted bow tie on their front grill. Made it easier to to glance in the mirror and see them.

On the topic of running Big Dog vs. brackets, you don't have to choose, run both! That's what I have done at the three SSHS events I have attended, and they usually try to structure the event so there is some time between the fastest bracket class and the BD runs....:bandit:

SSHS6 rules require a rollbar if you are 11:00-11.99, but according to NHRA regulations it is only required if you run 11:49 or better. At Fun Ford, a NHRA rules event, I asked the officials and this was confirmed. GASSIT, can you double-check on this?

atlss96
04-23-2006, 07:25 AM
You are correct, NHRA has lowerd the ET for a roll bar from 11.99 to 11.49 on non convertible cars. Sorry for the snafu... we basically just copied the rules stuff from previous years on the SSHS website. I'll try to get the info changed :)

Below is copied from the NHRA website.....

SSee ya, Scott

----Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, a roll bar and an SFI 16.1 driver-restraint system will be mandatory on any vehicle running 11.49 or quicker and for convertibles running 13.49 or quicker. An SFI 3.2A/1 jacket will be mandatory for all drivers in vehicles running between 10.00 to 11.49 seconds. On any car running 11.49 or quicker, a flywheel and clutch meeting SFI Spec 1.1 or 1.2 and a flywheel shield meeting SFI Spec 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 will be mandatory. A driveshaft loop will be required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker and utilizing slicks, except vehicles equipped with street tires running 11.49 or slower.

With our full size cars, correct me if I am wrong. Is it correct that we do not require a full cage but only a roll bar behind the front seats with a restraint system if the car runs 11.49 or faster?

To the best of my knowlege, you'll a 5 point bar. This is what I run and have never had a problem with tech. FWIW, the roll cage must be welded to the chassis (frame), not the body (IE sail panels). Although I have never had this checked I thought it would be worth mentioning. Here is a link to the roll bar FAQ from NHRA.
