Being from Australia i wanted to just show what nice V8 sedans Ford & GM offer over there, it's no wonder Pontiac grabbed the Holden Monaro & badged it the GTO. It's a shame some of these other beauties are not imported over here. Even bigger shame that Ford & GM didn't make them here in the first place. Oh well Mad-Max country needs Mad-Max style cars :-)

Have a look and enjoy...

5.6l V8 sedan!

Check out the Falcon XR8:

Holden is the Australian GM arm:

HSV is to Holden what SVT is to Ford here:

Australian Dollar A$1=US$.61 so A$50,000 ~ US$31,000

Yeah, but fortunately there is a steering wheel there!

Women have it easier in Australia, there they can drive on the wrong side of the road legally ;-)

I lived in Perth, where i had a ex-police Holden VL Commodore S 5.0 V8, only 160hp, but man that thing had torque :-) Could beat most cars off the line, even my dad's Ford TX-5 turbo. Racing my dad, now that was fun...

When i immigrated i wanted a V8 bad, but ended up with an Impala LS, since there were no new V8 in my price range :-(

Eric - I believe Greneral Motors went for the monaro for the GTO was due to time constraints and $'s.. There was a rear wheel drive, V8 car that was easy to convert to the GTO. The basic car was already built. All Pontiac had to due was modify the car to meet U.S standards. IMHO. John

I don't understand GM, they had the Camaro & the Firebird, both 5.7l V8 2-doors, they can them and instead import a....5.7l V8 2-door from Australia, what makes them think it will sell? If Marauders don't sell....I like the GTO (eh Monaro), just not the corporate BS.

Very simple Ford sold 3 to 4 Mustangs to every Fbody do the math and you start to realize that GM was lossing a lot of money
not only that but More vettes was sold than Trans Ams in 2001 now thats bad when a $45 grand vehicle out sells a high $29 Grand vehicle.
