I have a little tax refund cash for Marauder Toys. I am torn between adding a spoiler or adding rear gears. Speed or Looks??? AAArrrgghh. :help:

speed, 4.10 or 4.30 IMHO if you really want that small edge and are mostly driving in the city.

Well the spoiler will be a cheaper mod, the gears plus installation plus a tune for the speedo will put you past the cost of a spoiler even with paint and installation.

I'm guessing that you will do both once you have the cash, right? I'd go with the Spoiler first, just incase they decide to stop making them. 4.10s will always be in production.

good points guys, if you do the spolier first why not be different and get wing like cruztaker and I have? just thinking out loud.

That's a very good point.
After having the spoiler on ..... I think my car would feel naked without it. If I ever bought another MM or even a 98+ CV/GM ..... I'd have to throw an OEM spoiler on ASAP, I think it would bother me that much.
Gears - I have a set sitting here I haven't done yet.
Maybe I'll win that Trilogy SC ......
And those gears will never see the light of day again.

At this time, it's one or the other, not both. SoulRiot may have a good point there.. spoilers might be hard to come by some day. I already have a tune for 4.10s in the xcal2, that's easy enough to switch.... course I was thinking 4.56 just to be a little different... nearly 100 percent of oour driving is around town...... I have seen the OEM type whale tail spoiler in person at meets and I think they just complete the car. Should have been included on every Marauder IMHO, not an option. I have looked several times at the pics of you guys that have the other top mount types of spoilers too - they look great on the car, but of the two types I still prefer the whaletail...
...please excuse the ramblings of a madman.... I am over-obsessing this decision methinks. Please continue with opinions.

Just cruise any strip late at night and wait for a "ricer" ride to park. When the owner leaves, you can unbolt their Dodge Super Bee look-alike in all brushed aluminum for free. Now you can get the gears and be happy all the way around. :D

Could go to the salvage yard a pick up a slab of aluminum for 50 cents, if you want that Discount Auto Parts ricer look!
:poke:
I think Bill is right about the spoiler, especially if you want the 'whaletail'.
Eggie, you know we can turn that car whatever color you want! :coolman:

Depends on the money you have....
GEARS are more expensive and most people can't set them up themselves.
So if you have enough coin for the gears... get them.
Spoiler is cheaper and you can install it yourself. The OEM spoiler comes with all the directions and templates and can be installed with simple handtools. If you don't have the money for the gears ... then do the spoiler.

I would go for the gears myself. But then again, I like the understated look of the MM.

Gears! Performance first! If it is not more fun to drive, who cares how it looks!!
BTW, I have the raised spoiler on mine with the third brakelight, (it was installed by the previous owner). I like it better then the subdued look of the optional spoiler. And it is a lot easier to spot my car when it is parked with a dozen black ones!

A quick questin on the Spoiler. Can it be installed WITHOUT drilling holes in the trunk? Does 3-M make a tape that will hold it on tightly enough ??
I want the spoiler, but am unwilling to drill holes.

I want the spoiler, but am unwilling to drill holes. While the tape goes all the way around, I wouldn't trust it to be the only thing holding it on. The tape is already attached, with plastic on the outbound side to be peeled off during install. That tape also seals it so water doesn't drip in, so I wouldn't remove it to put something larger there.
Could you add more tape elsewhere? You'd have to see how it fits with the curve of the trunk, while keeping the outer edges sealed. What happens to the paint if the tape lifted off? The tape would only be holding on to the paint on the spoiler, not the spoiler itself.
Drilling is not really a big deal, just take a deep breath.

DUDE, GEARS FIRST OR TOURQE CNVTR!!!! BESIDES SPOILER IS ONLY LIKE 200BUCKS FROM FORD PAINTED(AS LONG AS YER CARS BLACK), YOU CAN DO THAT BY CUTTIN OUT THE STARBUCKS LATTES FOR 2 WEEKS...
I HIGHLY RECCOMEND 4.10'S, PI 3000 TOURQE CVTR, AND INTAKE SPACER (FOR 100 BUCKS THIS MAKES A BIG DIFFERNCE!!!) FROM REINHART AUTOMOTIVE!!! BEST IN THE BUSINESS!!

I want the spoiler, but am unwilling to drill holes.Dude, do NOT attempt to install the OEM spoiler with just tape or adhesive. One day someone will go to slam the trunk using the spoiler as a handle, and it will come off.
Are you apprehensive about the drilling process itself, or do you anticipate removing the spoiler someday and don't want the holes there?
If it's the first part, I gotta tell you...NO ONE was more nervous about putting drill-bit to metal on a brand new $30,000 car than I was. Just follow the sign-language instruction sheet and use the specified common hand tools, and you WILL do fine.
If it's the second part, then nevermind...

Pay to have it done ..Even my guy said it was a pain in the ass..Really? It wouldn't have anything to do with keeping his prices up? :)
I found it was actually quite simple, and I have little "body work" experience. It took Mary and me just a little over an hour, and we worked slowly...the dealer wanted $100 to install it and I'll bet it wouldn't have turned out any better. In fact, from some reports here, having someone else do it turned out worse. And these were alleged professionals...

I may want it off some day. Plus, these Northeastern winters and all the salt on the roads will find those holes and make them bigger, much bigger, and brown too..
I worry not about following the destructions, er, I mean instructions.

The hardest part about the spoiler install is lining it up. Do it right and it should take an hour tops...getting over the fear and getting the nerve up to drilling holes in a perfectly good trunk lid took about 45 minutes of that hour. Be anal as heck when doing it and it helps to have someone give you a second opinion on positioning so to insure it is correctly positioned. And as for as those templete things in the kit...leave them there. Once you know where you are going to drill your holes, get a long drill bit and go all the way through. And then from the other side with the hole cutter, use the first hole as a pilot and drill out the larger hole. Works like a charm. Or at least it did for me.

Can't believe you'll pass on being the first Ricer/Rauder hybid! LOL. Can't you just FEEL the envy from the rest of us when you pull up with this on the back of your ride? Just keep a 1/2 inch socket wrench and full face hood in your console for immediate use and it can be your for free!

The Blackbird was "mostly stock" with a custom Dennis/Zack tune...4.10s most definitely make a big difference in the launch...4.56s will be even better, but if you do a lot of highway driving, be prepared to have the major oil companies love you...

Highway driving is very limited, we rarely get out of town. My commute to work is only about five miles each way and will probably stay that way for another nine or ten years. I have always felt the gas mileage of big cars was a worthwhile tradeoff for more safety in a crash. After excaping a major crash with only major bruises, I still believe that. Driving a luxobarge I kinda expect to stop every 30 minutes for gas :) Besides, I am really nearsighted, my wife won't allow me to drive a small car anyhow. ;)

That's why i went with the spoiler for now, and haven't regreted it. Just make sure you dont let the screws fall inside the lid, if you install it yourself. Still haven't found a way to get it out :(. UDPs and gears will be available a lot longer.

I am having local Ford dealer do the work, as I gotta get the fromt bumper scrape fixed. Good time to paint and install spoiler is while they are spraying dark blue pearl anyway. I am very nearsighted and have a loooong history of installing everything off center and crooked. This way it'll be warrantied or a while and done correctly. I have had good results from their body shop with previous repairs.
