I just installed a MM converter in my Vic. overall it is a great mod from the 12" balloon. the used MM converter is doing the dreaded shudder usually fixed by a complete flush the tranny / TC & fill with new ATF. i would guess the last owner of this TC got the shudder & maybe upgraded to a PI.

my question is: is this "leftover" shudder from old ATF in the clutches & will this break in with the new Red Line ATF i put in & go away? i remember when i got the shudder in my Vic the 1st time, even with new ATF / drained TC, the shudder didn't completely go away until about 500 miles of driving.

what do you guys think ? THX.

Hi Geoff. All my TC shudders on all my other panthers took a couple hundred miles to disappear. But, that doesn't mean it will work that way with yours. I guess you'll just have to drive it to see.

Geoff,

A trick from the Ford dealer in Charlotte...Add ONE 4 ounce bottle of Ford Friction Modifier to the tranny and your shudder will be gone as soon as you drive off!! I have had CV's since 1993 and several had this happen and it always fixed it.......Two of them went over 200K miles and none of them had any trans problems other than the shudder!!

I had a friend who had a Town Car that would shake the dash so hard the steering wheel shook and one bottle fixed it!!:bows:

Give it a try.....$4.00 or so and it cannot hurt a thing......FLAME SUIT ON...HAVE AT IT "NAY SAYERS"!!

I had this problem with my 94 TBird, my brother-in-law had it on his 94 TBird, my father-in-law had it on his 94 CV, and I felt the shudder on many airport limo services TownCars around the 94/95 time period.

This obvious Ford tranny defect still exsts? I wonder why Ford just didn't put the additive in the car on the assembly line.

jerrym3....

The Mercon V is much better than the older Mercon/Dexron and usually a fluid change replentishes the additives that break down with heat and time....leaving the friction surfaces glazed. The phenol and amines in the friction modifier simply "un-glaze" the friction surfaces and do a quick job of it!!

I added a bottle to mine at the first change and will again at the 3rd or 4th....cheap insurance!!
