View Full Version : New Marauder Custom Exhaust

thought y'all'd like to see...for a member/friend here. Dual 3" from Kooks Headers (3" collector version) back....3" Mandrel straight piped *see below

Custom designed X-Pipe, 3" Magnaflow polished mufflers, 3" mandrel custom tailpipes to new Meg's "non-baffled" tips. Custom painted tubing with high-temp Black...leaving ceramic coated headers, polished mufflers & tips.

* now before anyone gets their panties in a wad....the way I run my business is I am NOT the "CAT Police"...if a car comes in here with CATS on it...it MUST leave here with CATS on...if it doesn't or is trailered in with just headers installed...it's not up to me that it leaves here with them. And this owner lives in an area where there is no emissions requirements. There...I've stated my position.

Also...please note I am NOT a vendor here...so please don't call/PM/email me wanting to know about buying this....I'm just letting you see what we did today to a Marauder.....

Enjoy!

Todd,

Are those tips 3 inch in????? I was looking for tips like Megs that are 3 inch in and out for when I come up there to get you to do the exhaust work on my turbo setup.

Looks like you may have already found what I need!!!!!!

Also, do you ever use v-band clamps for exhaust work instead of 3bolt flanges???

It's black. I like that. Why is it black? I've only seen shiny (or rusty) exhaust pipes. What makes it black? And when can I get mine?

Please, set up a second operation in South Florida. Well, I guess that I am more lucky than most since I would only be driving from South, FL. Your posts are always great. You work on some of the sweetest cars and you do the cleanest work that I have seen.

I'm just sitting here, staring at that exhaust and I'm simply speechless.

Oh my god! That is some very nice artwork. Thanks fo showing us what can be done. And , if you don't mind, I'mm gonna print those shots out and show them to the local guy who's doing my exhaust, before he starts on it... maybe it will fire up the competitive jucies in him and I'll get an even better job....
Oh man that is sooooooo sweet there Taf.:bows:

Todd - It's a bit after the fact but on your next custom exhaust install you may want to consider AirBorn Coatings ( in Charlotte, NC ).

When I lived in NC, I had some exhaust work done at R & J Custom Exhaust ( Apex, NC ); known in the area for their quality work + the only one that I could find that did ( and had in stock ) stainless steel ( satin and polished ). Any who ..... Was in their shoppe when a 3" exhaust system for a pro' mod' street rod came back from AirBorn Coatings; R & J had made the exhaust system ( with mandrel bends ), disassembled it, and sent it off to be aluminum ceramic coated. It was gorgeous and very cool + trick.

In addition to the bling factor, there is the thermal barrier benefits. IMO the prices / co$ts are reasonable. *Will be sending 'em some exhaust manifolds soonly.

Just something to keep in mind for next time.

Why such a big diameter? Why didn't you go with 2.5"?

There is a point that diameter gets too much. 3" I'm guessing may be the limit for our engines, but I'm not sure.

There used to be chart posted here. Adjusting dia of the piping can make the exhaust system of a V8 with single setup just as effective as a dual setup.

To answer a couple of the questions above:

Coating an exhaust system....

Uh...yeah...I know all about ceramic metallic coating...in fact the first 2 complete systems for any Marauder to be done (almost 2 years ago) was mine and Marty's. Click here for a picture (http://www.legalknevil.com/albums/Marauder/ahx.jpg) This true, ceramic metallic coating job in the attached pic was done at Performance Coatings in Jonesboro, GA (http://headercoatings.com/). They have since done several members here.

We used a specialized, high-temp paint on the system above...purely for an aesthetic look....

Why a 3" system?

'Cause that's what the customer requested...and we can do it (and there's really not anyone outside of Southern California that can in a continuous mandrel bending process). Oh yeah...and this car makes nearly 650HP at the crank....

Usually, from what I've read, 2.5" diameter is the max you want to go with these engines because you lose too much velocity. I have seem people go to 3" because they had some serious engines (high boost, high CR, etc.).

Bah... You do what you want to do... Open headers, cut outs, 1" pipe, it's all good. It ain't no debate. I love the work... and he's right, it's straight pimpin' to be mandrel bendin' 3" pipe on site... I only wish he was in TX instead of the ATL.

Yes, but that is probably the case with that car if it is making nearly 650HP at the crank....

Man TAF, I know where I'm going for my exhaust kit.
I "Love" those sweet looking SS-Magnaflows, and the piping too.
I'm just looking for the High Flow Cats, X-pipe, 18" Magnaflows and the Piping that goes into the Megs Tips,(Non-Baffled) from Wes, Thanks.

Todd,
How close is the rear end tube from the pipe at nromal level after the flange?http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/8/3/Marauder2.JPG
Judging by the image, they look like thay can touch each other easily.

BTW, Nice work. I saw your handiwork the 1st time when Shakes_26 had it done there last year.

The pic is deceiving...the flange (on that side) is way above the rear air suspension controls.....

Todd has done right by me.
He treated me like family when I lunched my motor at SSHS9.
And you want to see a pretty car, hs interior with alll the extra leather...Freakin killer
Underhood, that is what a Marauder should look like, all that carbon fiber-Wow!
I drove his car at SSHS9, with the twin screw and a new tune.

I have heard stories but haven't bothered to research, it's none of my business and it's water under the bridge before I got here. I like the guy and hope to see him again this year at SSHS10
