View Full Version : Great Minds Think Alike, or, Vette Owners Get Scared

So I had to make fun of my roommate today...

He has a '99 C5 Vette, got a great deal on it, 6spd, about 60k miles...let depreciation do the work, ya know? ;)

Anyway...

Before I had my Marauder I had my Grand Am GT. I bought some very nice 17" wheels for it. Not long after that, he got Z06 style rims for his Vette.

I bought my Marauder then. One of the first mods after my tune was the JLT Intake. Not long after, the Vette was sporiting an intake.

Next I went with 4.10's. A few weeks later the Vette was sporting 4.10's.

Now I'm supercharged, and faster than the Vette. (Awesome!)

I just found out today the Vette is getting a Magnussen blower in the next few weeks.

So, great minds think alike??

Key differences though, my gears were $450 installed, his were much much more. (To do gears on a Vette you buy the whole diff assembly.) Intake was cheaper and netted a bigger result. A good blower setup for the Vette is much more expensive too, and mine was self-installed.

I will give him credit - he's getting a slightly used setup from someone who switched to a pro-charger setup, so he's getting a good deal.

Still, I'm thinking there's a trend here. :)

I think he can't stand to have a "family four door" be faster than his "sports car". :)

Refreshing change from the usual FOG's clogging up the highway at 10 under in thier Vet "sportscars". Dennis:beer:

Oh yeah, much credit to him, don't see as many 6spd Vettes around. It's a sweet car, and very quick. It's gonna scream with that Magnussen, that is, if he can hook up with it. :)

I'm happy, I may have passed on my "big picture" attitude to him, his mods will augment the blower, nothing has to be removed to go with the blower. Though, with 4.10s and a blower on a Vette holy smokes is what the tires will be sayin'!

Looks like I'll have to take a trip to see Lidio this summer and get a smaller pulley and tune to keep up!

As I understand it, Vette rear axle u-joints don't hold up to 4.11 gears and a supercharger. Same for 8.8" IRS Fords. Will he upgrade them also?
