Does anyone know what the "hockey stick" or "waterfall" Mercury logo is supposed to represent? Just wondering if each line was supposed to represent/symbolize something?

I was going to leave mine stock until I saw Colex's design for the front Mercury Marauder badge. As soon as they have a rear to match, my waterfall, M or whatever, are history.

Yes , it's the wing on the side of the god Mercury's helmet, hence the flying "M"! Got this info from a press release in the 80's after they made the change to this logo.

It's no matter to me....Zack's grille came in and I think I'm going to order another decklid badge and use that new fusion paint to make it black. A very good body shop I sell parts to wanted $250 to $300 to fill the holes in and repaint the whole lid. I can't afford that now. I want Addco bars fore and aft instead.

How do you guys get an 'M' out of that? There are no connecting lines on the top. I was under the impression it was to resemble the 'Waterfall' effect the Lincoln Grilles had integrated years ago. Remember the commercial of the Navigator (I think) in the foreground of a waterfall? Windows up, no noise, windows down, Noise?

Either way - it's gay and has to go. CM badges will be here on Tuesday.

M ??????!!!!!

Close your right eye. OK. Now tilt your head 45 degrees to starboard from the vertical. Now squint slightly with your left eye. See ... it's an "M" !!!

Seems like everybody has to have their emblem or logo "inside" something these days (ex circle). "Free standing" emblems & logos just don't seem to "fit in" with todays way of thinking & marketing.

Perhaps it's just a symbolic "kiss of death" that means :

We will eventually change & stray soooooo far away from our roots trying to give people what _we think_ they want to drive & buy & _not_ the buyers themselves .....

That it will ultimately run said company straight into the ground.

Course' what do I know ..... it's not like any such thing has ever happened before.

What ever happened to hood ornaments? I wonder what Mercury would look like screwed to my hood?

Didn't the 05 GM's bring back the stand up hood ornament ?. TC's I think did in 03 as well.

As much as I miss the days gone past .....

I don't think our MM's would look right with a hood ornament.

The body shape & lines of some cars are naturals for a hood ornament ..... IMHO the CV & GM probably look best without them since 1992.

Here's a new twist. Stopped by my dealership to peek at the new stock, and the salesman say that '06 is the last year for names. L/M is going to numbers, like all the imports. The only names not affected are Town Car and Navigator.

So...The next "Marauder" may well be "300 C"

I always liked the way I was able to "Aim" my '90 Town Car down the road.

Mac,
Lincoln is actually going to letters: ie MkZ(replacing Zephyr), MkS(replacing the LS), MkX(replacing the Aviator). Town Car is dieing in '07,as Wixom Assembly is closing and well yes the Navigator name will remain which wouldn't make sense with all the Alpha naimg in Lincolns lineup. Sources have said it would be stupid to kill the name that "started" the current trend in luxo SUV's. Mercury I haven't heard too much about other than it will stick around.

I, too, am sick of the waterfall (or stylized "M") logo. At long last, I submitted the following to Ford's Innovation page:

Since coming to work for Ford Motor Company, I have leased or bought 7 Mercury vehicles. That is because I am a Savvy Individualist. But one thing that Mercury perpetually has done is a daily thorn in my flesh: the "hockey stick" or "waterfall" logo. If this represents ANYTHING related to the Mercury brand, I and the other Mercury enthusiasts I know have yet to figure it out. It helps keep our Mercury brand perpetually stuck in "1992 mode."

Please, please, please bring back the Mercury "God's Head" emblem! Unlike the waterfall emblem, the Mercury head, with winged helmet, is an icon that literally screams "Mercury." I am so displeased with the hockey-stick emblem, that I've spent $200 to replace them with proper Mercury Head logos on my 2003 Marauder. The emblems that came with the car are an embarrassment.

Remember, Mercury is not only the Messenger, but the god of Commerce! I don't see how we can expect to stop our erosion of market share when we keep insulting the god of Commerce.

I'll let you know if I get anything more back than the automatically-generated "Thank you for thinking innovatively" message.

Meteorite don't count on nothing more than the standard reply. I too work at Ford and shake my head almost everyday at some of the thing FoMoCo does. :shake:

Yes it does. It’s Sanskrit for “Dorkey Emblem”
