View Full Version : Zack and Mac Dead Pedal?

To my knowledge, only Kenny Brown produced a dead pedal for the Marauder/Panther frame. It's no longer available, and some of us have resorted to retro fitting a Mustang version, which is also out of production. I bough one on e-bay myself, and it looks like it's not going to fit well without some fabrication. Pooh.

While figuring a mounting bracket, Zack and I started kicking around the idea of producing our own dead pedal, and this poll is to gauge interest in that product. From these numbers, we can explore costs per pedal and research costs factors, so, everyone...Please vote. It will cost you nothing.

A Poll w/o a Poll? Interesting.

If a Dead Pedal is one that attatches to the Left of the Brake Pedal, and attatches to the Floor / Kick Panel, I MAY be interested. Depends on what it looks like.

As always, cost IS a factor. I am about ready to get a block of wood and put it there. Even my wifes Mighty Sable has a dead pedal, or pad at least.

I really don't want to put holes in the lower kick panel. Would love to be able to Epoxy it to the floor. Can't drill holes through the floor up here in SALT country.

A Poll w/o a Poll? Interesting. KillJoy Patience, please?

When you post your first poll, you will learn that the post goes up first, while you formulate the questions to be answered. You should see the poll now.

KillJoy Yes, a dead pedal is a pad where you position your left foot and push yourself back into the seat while driving. It's usually attached to the frame, between the floor pan and the emergency brake pedal. You lean your body weight into the pedal with your left foot to keep your right foot free to travel from the throttle to the brake and back. It's also a neat foot rest for casual driving. Our will be made from .125 wall mild steel, you won't hurt it.

Folks over 6 foot prolly won't be interested because they can reach the floor pan. But, drivers under 6 foot praise it. I have one on my KB #1x, and I miss it on my #3.

As always, cost IS a factor....I really don't want to put holes in the lower kick panel. Agreed, holes in the floor pan are not a good idea. Most likely, we will follow the pioneers on this and design it to attach to the frame behind the kick panel, without drilling through the panel. Cost is a factor for us too, which is why we need to gauge interest. Thanks for voting!

Is the steel thicker than Kenny Brown's Design? IMHO, if you don't drill through the panel to secure it it will not be as sturdy as KB's design. Unless you plan to use the floor as a reinforcement or a brace.

If the price is right and the mounting is solid, I would be very interested. From what I have read about the MB dead pedal, maybe moved a little closer to the firewall to provide a little more room between it and the e-brake pedal.

I am 6' and would love to have a place to put my left foot when driving.

We will make it identical to Kenny Brown's design.

I installed a Mustang dead pedal, had to modify the kick panel, but it works great.

The KB dead pead is pretty sturdy, but IMHO more can be done. I'll need to take pictures...

rayjay - Doh! just bought a Mustang DP.
No matter. It's all good.

Now all you have to do is cajole a member in making a cardboard template of the KB bracket and then have someone local fabricate it in metal. *Involves 3 pieces of flat, heavy-stock steel and 2 welds (unless you know of someone that could bend a single piece). Oh ya .... and drilling a couple or 4 holes.

As the poll gos, yes I'm interested.
I will wait until all the votes are counted in Chicago for the details.

I think it's admirable of you guys to take on this project to fill a void.

Got a KB. Good luck with this.

I'd be in for one. Even though I'm 6'2", I like to have my seat pretty far back for added leg room, so sometimes reaching the floor is kinda hard. I know you guys do good work, so keep us posted!

Welcome to the wonderful world of......

BILL GATES!!!!!
If I recall right, the Kenny Brown dead pedal is, well, DEAD. I wanted one and could not order one, therefore I made mine.
If I'd have known that M&Z were planning this, I'd have waited.

Ditto what Rich said.

Agreed, I thought we had a dead pedal until I realized it was the firewall.

j/k :)

Even taller folks may elect for one, I have my seat back all the way and can touch to firewall if I stretch my left leg out all the way, but even tall folks may want one for competition driving. My small Mustang has one and I like it - had to get used to NOT having one in the Marauder, my Grand Am had one and even as a tall person I liked them.

Hahahahaha! I posted my above post before continuing to read. Thread took a turn for the worse after the point I hit "Reply"...

Why copy the KB pedal when you have a chance to make it better? NO I don't have one and NO I don't have specifics, if people posted pics and I looked at the mounting points I may have specifics.

Sounds like the question now is if we'll end up with a Russian B-29 bomber or a service to the community...

But don't look at me for input, I'll just sit back and watch this one for now...

Seriously though, if copying the KB design I would hope the profit margin would be set accordingly considering who's time and effort went into the original design.......

OK, sight unseen, price unseen. I'll buy the first one. If
you two guy's are putting this together then that's good
enough for me. You have never screwed anyone on this
board out of anything. You have both been pioneers for
us for so many things for so many years that this is a no brainier.

make it so.............

And let me know when it's ready.
End of story.

We are on the ground floor here, gents, and collecting samples (and ideas) from the real world. This includes early Mustang designs, as well as a pedal specifically fit to the Panther frame by KB. A final design has not been carved out...Yet.

It may be floor pan mounted, frame box mounted, or, employ the A frame mounting KB used, we just don't know yet. It may come with a rubber pad all it's own, or, a slip proof metal grating, we haven't decided yet. However, we cannot explore any of this, without knowing if there is a market among us. Hang loose, please. This is a product in development. Any and all ideas are worthy of consideration, please post your opinions.

The end result may appear a duplication of a previous product, or, it could become something completely new to the dead pedal world. We'll see?

Thank you all for your participation, please keep it constructive.

I want one and I do not care about price, I have the KB now and it is not close enough to the floor for my liking, I'm 6-4 and 240 pounds, I use it but my knee is too bent for comfort or wedging me to the seat when I need it.

Things like this make me wonder if an adjustable pedal could be made - perhaps a 3 point selectable slider on a tubular steel shaft?

I would rather it look like a factory piece, and I definitely do not want to hack the kick panel to install it.

Not asking much, am I?
