My humble opinion - it's most likely a cutoff switch for the ignition circuit. Pontiac did something similar in the late 80's with the Grand Am, but the "key" was removable. Had more than one person complain to me that their car wouldn't start, only to find the "key" had been bumped out of position.

Would be similar to removing the fuse for the ignition circuit when the car was going to be parked for a period of time (airport, etc.).

Let us know what you find when you trace the wires.

Possibly an custom anti-theft switch that was installed by the last owner. see where the wiring goes to confirm.

Yah, but having secret switches on your car is as cool as having secret passageways hidden in your house.

That looks like the switch that runs the pump for the headlight fluid.

Could be:
Argon plasma spectrometer divider switch
Purple sludge pump primer switch
007 self destruct switch?? I've only ever heard about these...
Hydros?

The anticipation is that of a 6 year old on Christmas eve no?
*whew!!

It's the switch for stealth mode.

Lowrider pancake switch?

Flux capacitor.

Oh, I know... self destruct. Yep, hit that switch as soon as possible.

It could be a switch for a dual mode chip.

In the OFF mode your car runs normal.
In the ON mode, your car runs so fast, that no one sees it...

well its not the secret anymore...

Ill flip it off any see what happens, but that was my only guess, killl switch or chip mode, previous owner would not call me and i can get his number do to the effin privacy act, so i dont know if it had a tuner/programmer

Not the BatMobile. You know as well as I do, Jay, that THAT button is what
took the place of your (and my) "Little Red Button"...you know, the one that pops the afterburners out of the trunk?

Im going to say kill switch, switch to turn the Daytime running lamps on or off, Subwoofer switch, Strobe light switch, or You have the Marauder that has the train horns and that toggles between the air horns to regular horns.

Just press it already and get it over with!!

See if it leads to a chip in the back of the PCM.

Maybe a kill switch for one of the two following;

1. Odometer, did you check that?
2. If your in or near Virginia, or the car came from there (Or CT), could be a brake light kill switch. Its an old radar detector user trick for those 2 states, dont ask me how I know

Why don't you ask them to call the original owner? There's obviously something in the car you didn't know about when they sold it to you. Did they know it was in there? If they want your repeat business, they should step up to the plate and rectify this.

the original owner traded it in to Bob Brown chevrolet, they sold it to Dewey ford, an early 20 guy bought it and traded it to Car City about 3 months afterwards... then i bought it with 35k, the second owner could not have dont much or anything to it because what is done he would not have had any time to enjoy it... let alone get his moneys worth

also check my "its done (repeat)" post update

Touch each lead with a volt meter. Look for ground or power on either side of the switch. It may not even be connected to anything.
