Isnt the C5 Corvette the first car to come out with a flexible driveshaft?

Nope, it isn't the first.
I know better than to get into car trivia with Dan after he pulled a "Jensen Healey" out of his hat at WDC 2005. :D

We have a winner! The 1961 Tempest had a curved driveshaft, without U-Joints, connecting the engine and the rear transaxle, that was based on the Corvair. GM came up with the flexible driveshaft idea as a way to isolate the vibration from the atrocious 4 cyl engine they used. This engine was half of the Pontiac V8 and later morphed into the Iron Duke, proving that it is difficult to ever kill a truly bad idea.
