Well another thing was it originally was suppose to have a GM Rotary engine But after GM axed they'er Rotary program AMC was forced to use they'er I6 engine.
ie the short hood getting the I6 to fit was an engineering marvel of it's self

Didn't some have V8's? I thought I've seen a few that were modded and really move out...

Yeah the V8s were even uglier than the 6s.

In the commercial they would drive a Ford Granada inside the body shell of a Pacer.
