The front end had been described by many to look like female genitalia. I say this having heard it mentioned MANY times on old car shows on TV - it's ok for TV!

Oddly enough, Subaru has decided a similar grille setup will sell cars.

The WRX Impreza was a half-decent looking car, not it's the a front end similar to that fugly B9 Tribeca...sad, sad, sad.

I dont think they had female genitalia in mind if you look at this classic commercial I found lol

The only description I ever heard was, "It looks like an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon."

Dead serious! I heard it on one of the car shows on Speed Channel. It was on TV, it's gotta be real! :)

Seriously I guess if you have a strange imagination...I've heard this multiple times, suffice to say, it's stuck with me, you don't easily forget a description like that, especially when described in more crude terms than I put it!

Here's a quote:

"The high point came with the customizing craze of the 1940s and 50s, together with the (almost equally) flamboyant monster types it inspired in the industry.14 Figuration in so blatant a form, however, declined after the Ford Edsel--a car whose spectacular marketing failure (in 1958) was perhaps best explained by customer comments that its grille looked like a v*****(replete, we may add, with teeth)." http://xroads.virginia.edu/~DRBR/wernick.html

...with TEETH !!!! Sure seems to me that even with a remote resemblance there would have been a '59 Edsel, and a '60 Edsel, '61, '62, .... and a '06 Edsel...........

We'll have to see, Subaru is reinventing the look, maybe in the current day it's not so taboo...
