This car in question actually didn't have a name at first, the manufacturer was un-decided.
Car & Driver got first dibs on road testing the prototype.
When the test was complete, the C&D testing driver was asked what he thought about the cars performance, from a member of the manufacturers marketing department.
The driver replied .....
"Whew !!! ..... this thing is faster than a black cat with a white stripe down it's back ... trying to get away from an overly amorous skunk !!!.
With that said .....
The "Pepe' Le Whew" was born.

Don't know the answer, however I did see a Facel Vega, a couple weeks ago, right down the road from me. (No, it was not parked in a Holiday Inn Express parking lot).

That is a rare one. There were a few cars from that period with European chassis and American V8s. I think we've lost something important without those limited production cars in the world.

I used to work with a guy that had one of these (obviously a grey market) car that had an interesting ( although I can't confirm) history. He claimed the car had been a powertrain test mule for what would have been the next generation Delorean- I don't know if that was B/S or not. It had a turbocharged Volvo of some sort for power. Never got a ride in that one...it was probably pretty fast.
