You are close....1955 Packard Caribbean Convertible (model 5588)
came with a 352 CID V8 with two 4 Bbl Carbs.
This was Packard's first V8 and the most HP (stock) of any American
built automobile in 1955!:)

Twas' another 15 years before Buick made a 455. The same for Pontiac.

Olds brought out their 455 in 1968.

Packard had reversible upholstry and torsion bar self leveling suspension and push button auto trans on a stalk off the column.

Stude Golden Hawk, first muscle car.

Didn't the Packard Clipper have a pretty big motor in a lighter body (lighter than the Patrician)?

Also, didn't Mercury offer a huge motor in the 1958 lighter bodied Monterey, full sized car with three speed OD, which probably meant a lower rear and ratio?

Loved that 1957 Olds Super 88 with the J2 motor.

In 1955 the automatic transmission selector was STILL on the column
with the old type of tranny selection ( P-N-D-D2-L-R) different
from the standard of today. In 1956 they put the push button selector in.
The first Packard supercharged Hawk came out in 1957/58.
and that was the end of the line. Yes, the Packard Clipper was a
cheaper/lighter weight model in the last years.
