I read an article today about a guy that got caught using one of those. He bought it on ebay. Seems the traffic control staff were noticing disruptions at roughly the same time frame every day. Also seems traffic light camera kept seeing the same white Ford pickup truck passing through at the time they noticed problems. Mr. I'm Running Late For Work Every Day is now in big trouble.

lol Today someone at work started talking seriously about buying one. Some technical info that anyone else wants to discuss would be appreciated here.
Out of all of his mods/toys for the truck my initial reaction to this one was A Bad Idea. If that technology is used I couldn't see it being exploitable forever.

When I worked the road, I wanted to install that on my patrol car, but didn't when I found out only 2 or 3 intersections are set to recieve the signal.

IMHO, not worth the risk gentlemen.

I just heard today a guy was finally busted using one of these. He said it was worth every penny in making him ontime for work and what he saved in gas. Said he got it on Ebay for 100 bucks. The news article stated he only recieved a 50 dollar fine not sure where this was. They only work on the lights with the camera looking thing mounted above the traffic like thats what registers if there is a car there to turn the signals, like others have said I wouldnt get one cause there arent very many signals here with them and I dont have a set time to be at work, as long as I show up all is good so no use to me.

1. Not very many singals with them
2. Don't have a set time to get to work.

If you read the article I posted it isnt illegal enough for jail its still a fine. 50 dollar ticket for interfering with a traffic signal. So going to jail wouldnt cross my mind, but doesnt matter anyways cause I'm not really in that much of a rush. I like to spend as much time as I can in my MM even if I'm not moving. I bet in the next year this will be made a bigger offense once they start finding more of these devices and start updating light systems so that it will be happening more frequent.

These things have been around for years. I remember a kid in High School (10+ years ago) was wanting to build one. So, they are nothing new.

Is it really worth all of the trouble to be able to sleep in another 5 minutes???

Pre-emption can also be done with strobe lights flashing a particular pattern. For those cities the react to infrared, there are an equal number that react to strobe. If you've seen an ambulance with a single white strobe in the center above the cab, (especially if flashing a different pattern) that's strobe pre-emption.

Worked for me for years. Don't do it any more. Got more crap for just having strobes, they never knew I was also pre-empting.
