what is everybody else using? i know everyone has their favorite for whatever reason. i used fram for crown vic and had no problems. is there a reason to use factory? is this aplication an anti-drain back? i appreciate the input.

I just switched from Motorcraft to NAPA Gold oil and fuel filters last week. Cutting the oil filters open side-by-side revealed a thicker wall and stronger crimp on the NAPA [Wix] filter, but little difference in filtering media.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't hit a dead dog in the a$$ with a Fram Filter.

I like Purolator, based on extensive research done by a Ford enthusiast. You can find it by searching for "oil filter".

I use either NAPA (WIX), K&N or Motorcraft. The K&N's are a little pricey but there is a nut on the top so it's easier to remove.

I like to use the Motorcraft oil filter but I am looking into a remote mounted oil filter kit so as I can place a bigger oil filter.

I am in agreement with Tallboy with the NAPA gold filters. I was using Motorcraft, but not any more..

I don't like fram because of the fiberglass media inside. KNN makes a heavy duty one, NAPPA or (wix) is ecellent , it's funny though I'm still using OEM filters (motorcraft). But I only have 5234 on the clock so I might change later.

Just for reference purposes, I'll post this again:

NAPA Gold filters are made by WIX and are identical to the WIX-brand filters except for the paint on the can. Excellent quality.

Mobil 1, K&N, Bosch, STP, SuperTech (Wally World house brand), and the OEM Ford filters are all made by Champion Laboratories. Quality varies by brand, but even the SuperTechs are better than FRAM...

Aftermarket Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator. Excellent quality, and the best value for money, IMHO.

AMSOIL filters are made by Clarcor, the parent company of Balswin and Hastings. Excellent quality.

Pennzoil, Autolite, MileGuard (Jiffy Lube house brand), Defense, and about a million other brands are made by FRAM. Bottom of the barrel...the ONLY FRAM worth considering is the Extended Guard, formerly called the X2. Do not confuse this filter with the orange Extra Guard filter...and for the love of God, stay away from the Double Guard...it has Teflon particles built in (can you say "Slick 50"?)

I probably shouldnt admit this but, the last 2 oil changes I did I had used (GULP) a AC Delco Filter! :alone:
The storeI went to didnt carry a motorcraft so my only options were a Delco or a Group 7 filter which is basically like using your sock as a filter.

The storeI went to didnt carry a motorcraft so my only options were a Delco or a Group 7Not to worry...AC Delco filters are primarily made in a GM-owned plant, but Champion Laboratories is a second source for AC Delco and makes their low-volume and non-GM filters. Group 7 are made by Purolator, so with either choice you most likely got a decent filter, as long as you aren't trying to use an extended OCI (over 5,000 miles).

I would use AC Delco filters w/o reservation. They are very good.
I found AC Delco brakes to work better than OEM/Ford on Ford vehicles.

As often as I change my oil and filter, I don't really care. IMHO, the "best" is clean...

I guess I need to check the FL-1A'a out---so the are good for 4.6's like my 150 and T-Bird?No. the FL1A is not a direct substitute for the FL820S (the threads are different). Most remote filter kits specify the FL1A or equivalent, but it won't attach directly to the motor.

I just switched to Wix.

Since we moved to a different county, I now do all my business at a new auto parts store. They have these fancy shmancy filters.

I remembered the prase these filters got, so I went with them. The store had one of those cut open oil filter displays. You would not believe the junk inside a Fram oil filter.

Seriously aviod Fram oil filters!

I just switched to Wix. WIX is one of the top filters...if I couldn't get my hands on a gen-U-wine Motorcraft, I would use a WIX without hesitation.
Seriously avoid Fram oil filters!Amen!

Just a reminder, if you cannot find a WIX brand filter, NAPA carries the same thing. They just add a letter to the part number. This comes from a source I used to have @ WIX.

All NAPA oil filters are made by WIX. The NAPA Gold line is identical to WIX's self-branded filters, with the exception of the paint on the can, and NAPA removes the number 5 from the WIX part number.

For example:

Motorcraft FL820S = WIX 51372 = NAPA Gold 1372.

There's more information on this in a thread by Mike back in February >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24619&highlight=NAPA+Gold

FL-820S and FL-400S have the same thread and gasket profile.

I use Motorcraft FL-820S on mine, but wix and Napa Gold are good. Why do I use Motorcraft on my personal vehicle? Well, over the life of the car, whats a buck more for an oil filter I know that Ford approves for my car. As anal as I am, I have filter and oil UPCs as proof that I am doing the maintenance to them at proper intervals.

Interestingly enough, for the Fleet Side, I have recently started using Pro-Tec, a filter that Auto parts distributors sell in packs of 12 to jobbers. These filters apparently are "economy" Wix filters and instead of being in boxes, they are in a case of 12 and wrapped individually in plastic wrap. I've been using them with good results so far. A bunch of people on the F150 Board have cut them open and the innards are the same (sq in of filter media, SADBV etc).

I've come to really appreciate the ease of removal with the K&N filter. It gets good reviews for quality, too.

I've been using Mobil 1 and K&N HP-2010 filter
since the very first oil change at 3,000 miles.

Blackstone Labs reports that my Oil Filtration is EXCELLENT every time !!!
