Had the opportunity to weigh my marauder today at the local scrap (recycle) dealer...He felt the scales were within 10 lbs plus or minus....
with a full tank of gasoline she weighed in at 4,260 lbs..
Lets see....19 gallons of gas weighs 190.50 lbs...
so that get's her down to 4,069.50...
although it's tough to run with an empty tank...:D
and probably another 30 lbs of "stuff" in the trunk...
anyway...I tought someone might find this interesting
Everyone be careful out there...architect

Thanks, this is something I wondered about, specially after being on the track at Sebring with those much lighter Mustangs, some who had about the same engine.

In Rider 90's 1st video, Wesman's MM weighed 4280. I wonder what added 20lbs to his?
4260 with a full tank of gas? Doesn't that seem a little light? I thought they were heavier. But that is good news!!

Doesn't Marty's car weight like 4600 cause of the dynamat and roll cage?
I still think these cars do pretty well considering their weight. :)

Canadian air:lol:
More likely: push bar, skid plates, tranny cooler, camera, Kooks, hitch
Less likely: QA1's, wheels, tires
There are a lot of little things that change our cars weight. Mine is probably on the porky side with the Trilogy and hitch.

For the interest in comparision, my Crown Vic weighs 3900lbs with a 1/4 tank of gas and an empty trunk.

Why are the MM's so much heavier? They have the aluminum block, lighter hydro formed frame and other aluminum components?

Larger tires on the ground and bigger egos behind the wheel. And maybe a couple of other minor things. Dennis:beer:

wheels, tires, brakes; maybe, power seats, subwoofer, DOHC vs SOHC, intake manifold (is the SOHC plastic?)

Mike and Constables MMs were 4300+ lb at E-town IIRC. One of them had an empty tank, the other had a full tank, LOL.

Gasoline doesn't weigh 10 pounds per gallon. It's much lighter than water. The Handbook of Chemistry & Physics lists the density of gasoline at 41.0 - 43.0 pounds per cubic foot. That translates to 5.48 - 5.75 pounds per gallon. So, at 5.75 pounds per gallon. (19 * 5.75 = 109.25 pounds).

Did we establish for certain that weight was with driver?
How much was the driver weight?
Doesn't most of the literature have the curb weight as 4400lbs?
Is there an established baseline for how much a MM weighs, without driver, and without mods of great weight? (Like w/o huge sound system, dynamat, etc)

Curb weight in stock trim is 4,164 pounds from the lit that I have seen.
Using the "Architect's" estimate of 4069.5 pounds and adding back his overestimate of gas weight puts him at 4069.5 + 81.25 = 4150.75 pounds. Assuming the scale is 10# under accurate (per the owner) means that he only has about 24 pounds of miscellaneous "stuff" in the trunk not the 30 that he estimated. :D Close enough yet???

4300+ lb race ready (with driver in the seat).
98-02 Panthers are about 4150 lb race ready (with driver in the seat), according to the scales at E-town.

OK here's how I reached my numbers...
From Published charts....Not that means anything:D
Gasoline weighs 75 lbs. per cubic foot
1 Cubic foot equals 7.480 U.S. "liquid" (Not Dry @ 6.428) Gallons
19 Gallon tank equals 2.54 Cubic feet (19 divided by 7.480)
2.54 Cubic Feet times 75 lbs. equals 190.50 lbs (weight of full tank):D

You have a bogus chart or something. Water weighs 62.4 pounds per cubic foot. Gasoline is much lighter than water.

I've found two more spots that list weight of gasoline at 6.25 lbs per gallon depending on temperatute...approx. 72 degrees....
Quess I'll write the publisher of my "weights and measures" booklet and point out the mistake...1 cubic foot of gasoline can't weigh 75 lbs.:D
Thanks to all you "Mr. Wizards" out there...

I believe I remember reading a Ford Performance article that said the Mach 1 motor weighed about 615 pounds and the transmission weighs about 140 pounds. I will try to find the article, it was a while back.

I looked around and the 4r70w transmission is 150lbs and the complete 4.6 dohc engine is near 550 +/-. Look here:https://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=57402

Get the scale recalibrated, no way that adds up .
I was just shy of 4500# on the scale with my giant ass in the best seat.
I can't remember if I took out the driver side headlight

Seems high. When was the last time those shop scales were calibrated ??
Curb weight of the 2003 Mercury Marauder was listed as 4,164 pounds in the dealer brochure. The 2004 MM was 4,199 pounds. The difference likely being primarily the transmission upgrade.
Curb weight is defined as the vehicle without passengers or cargo. It includes all operating fluids including a full tank of gas. Unless you are toting around 367 pounds of junk in the trunk, there is no way it could get near 4,796 pounds. Something is off by quite a bit. Check your conversion from kilograms.

Hi Guys
The scales are calibrated at six monthly intervals the end of every January and July and were last calibrated around mid January 2017, I can look out the calibration certificate when I am back in the shop on Monday if you like.
My trunk was virtually empty only containing a few essentials (warning triangle, first aid kit, bulb kit and hi-vis jackets) for when I travel to Europe and I admit my scales do round to the nearest 10kg, the Marauder weighed in at 2180kg, I used the approximation of 2.2lbs per Kilogram
If you want a more accurate conversion taking into account my scales rounding to the nearest 10kg my Marauder would be 4784 - 4828lbs

Stock Aero curb weight is under 3800lb, that's Terminator territory lol
I was able to get my car down more than that though
