That's because I will be getting a take home department car. Effective tomorrow, 4/27/06, I will be starting as a crash investigator for my department. I'll be more than likely getting a Chevy Impala, and I'll get to use it off duty for almost anything in county. So that allows me to leave the Marauder at home more, putting less miles on her. With this being a higher paying job and not paying as much for gas, I'll be able to afford to spend more on the Marauder.

For those interested in my new job, my department and many others have civilian employees that handle crashes and low priority calls. So, I'll be out there in a uniform helping the public out. This job is to get my feet wet, because in about a year or so, I want to put my application in to become a LEO. I feel this is a great way to get good experience.

Nice job, Bill. I'm jealous. I could use more $ to spend on the 'rauder!

I've been using the government vehicles recently for all of my travel. Got tired of not getting reibursed on time and the correct amount.
It's definitely a plus! Congrats!

Congrats on your new challenge, keep an eye out for the HID lamps...LOL!

I have a staff of approximately 180, about half are civilian (no powers of arrest). They are mostly in very technical assignments, and get the best of training and treatment by the Department. But, since they do not come in contact with suspects in their trades, no powers of arrest are required.

I have Fingerprint Techs I, II, III and IV, who work with live prints from people in police custody, as well as "dead" prints sent up from the morgue. IIIs earn Lt. pay, and IVs earn Capt. pay.

I also have Latent Print Examiners I, II, and III, who work with "lifts" from crime scenes. Lot of court time here, and at time and 1/2. And, I cannot leave out my Police Communication Operators, I, II and III, and the IIIs earn Sgt. pay. These folks keep everything plugged in and running smooth, which can get a bit nutty at times. IIIs handle system maintence and computer forensics as well. Yeah, we see some sick stuff in forensics.

At times, these civilians are busier than the sworn, but all of them are very valuable to the police mission. The challenge of fighting crime in a free society has become quite advanced, it's not just bullets and bl*w jobs anymore.

Best wishes with your new assignment. If things go well, you may not want to give it up.

Thank you all for the well wishes and comments, I've done some math and i should be getting about $6,000 more a year.......

Down side is my future schedule is going to be 12p to 8:30p tues to sat, so it will make going to our local meets harder. But I will try to get free to make them.

Congrats on the new job!

The take home car is a great perk!! I considered that to be worth a 5K raise per year alone.

Lots of luck.
