I've called many wheel companies. Only 2 can do. Sean Hyalnd has some, but geting to talk to someone is impossible, and the wheels he shows on web site are damn ugly!! Fiske has a 17 x 8.5 with 7.25 back space. This may restrict your turn radius, you may not care. $720 each!! I've ordered 17x8 from Colorado Custom (Bruce, great guy) with 7" bs. $370 each, more if you want. Many styles. (Stock MM wheel has 6.56" bs) I plan to use BFG KDWS 255/50/17 at 27.1" dia, close to stock where ABS/other computer should be OK. And resonably priced and used on other vehicles so long term availability should be good. Why 17", why not. If you want, call me , this is a deep subject!!

Actually I have put a lot of time into this and have finally come up with some help from Discount Tire Direct, been working with them for about a month, here's the deal. They have done the fitments and come with the following advice, You can use any wheel of stock size (18 x 8) with a positive off set of 40mm to 60mm. (18 x 8.5 and 18 x 9 needs to be put to them to come up with the right offset required you will need) That provides a lot choices. they have wheels from $199.00 to $750.00 you should be able to find something you like in that range. This advise apply's to any brand wheel. They offer a lot of finish's, even black powder coat.

That would mean the new "Magnum500" look type aluminum wheels on the MACH1 would work. I think they are 40mm offset

Careful, anything less than stock 50mm offset will likely cause rubbing of the inner lip of the front fender, especially if you use a wider tire.

I forgot to mention caliper clearence needs to be addressed also.

Practically any two piece wheel will offer custom diameters and back spacing. There are a ton of two piece wheel companies: Colorodo Custom, Budnik, Billet Specialties, Boyd Coddington, Chip Foose, yadda, yadda, yadda....

Both Foose and Kaotik are full of it!!! Stock MM whell has 50 mm offset, and if you want wider tires, you need 55 or 60. They list 42, 45, aint gonna work. One list a 7.5" wide with 45 offset, but do you want narrower wheels?? Not likely.

dont be confused Reaper... it's actually quite simple. Check out this site, it'll help explain a lot... and it's in plain language ----

how wide are our wheels now?

Reaper948

How about this...

50mm or 60 offset...
20x8.5s in the front
20x 8.5 or 10s in the back?
or are 10s too wide.....

Constable
05-05-2003, 07:53 PM
our wheels are 18" x 8" with a 50mm offset. I would say 8.5" is an ideal width, but check with a professional to get the right offset. 10's are WAY too wide. Forget it.

why wouldnt just getting a 50 offset be sufficient enough constable....

My friends and I are trying to find a place for afterprom near the shore!.... got any suggestions? We were gonna rent a house but im open to other suggestions

Like I said... inquire with a professional. I'm not a genius in the backspacing department, but once you go even a LITTLE bit wider, you can run into some nasty contact issues with fenders and such.

As for an after party?? Do it right and head for WILDWOOD!! Seaside is where I went, but that was 5-6 years ago. Grab a few hotel rooms right next to eachother and keep the "adult beverages" on ice in one of the bathtubs. Good times.

There is a little flexibility in offset. Wheels for an '03 town Car for instance, have a 54mm offset, but will fit the Marauder.

When you start playing with different offsets and different widths, you start running into problems. As Constable said, contact a pro. They'll probably have to do some trial fits

There is some manager at a local discout tire that put 20s on his Marauder. His car should be confiscated and given to a more deserving human then he should be dragged out back and summarly shot. ; ) its a blasphemous desecration i tell ya...

those wouldn't be chromed 20s with "spinners" would they?

Keep the wheels stock. After market wheels = problems. IMHO John

If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside. For most cars, this won't work correctly. We have test fitted thousands of different vehicles for proper fitment. Our extensive database allows our sales staff to offer you the perfect fit for your vehicle.
I guess the 50mm offset the Marauder has will change with wider rims/tires with the "plus one - plus two" concept. Anyone:confused:Thanks.

You really can use an offset of 40mm to 60mm if you stay with a stock wheel size 18 x 8. Plus or minus 10 mm won't hurt. 10mm = a hair over 3/8ths of an inch, there is plenty of room for this under our cars and it won't make a speck s**t of impact on handling.

Thomas C Potter
05-06-2003, 08:02 PM
I must disagree Mr Bill!! If the fronts were to have less than stock 50mm os, and a wider tire is used, the tire is likely to rub the fender lip. My new wheels will have 62mm of os with 255's all around. If anyone is serious about different wheels, call me, it's a very deep subject!!

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but if you have fitment issues, you can always machine the wheels. When I put 20's on my LS, the shop machined them so the offset would eb correct for my vehicle. Your best bet would be to contact a rim shop directly.

ronald@goodroads.net - does all my rim work, very large rim dealer down here in south florida, he could help you with any questions you have

OK, now I'm really showing my age and lack of modern sophistication, but to me, some of the finest looking wheels ever were the classic Cragar SS mags, especially with a spinner insert. I checked the Cragar website, and it doesn't show the SS mags in 18", though. Maybe they will have them out by the time my wife lets me spend some more money.

Snooze, you lose...
