I have a 95 Continental with a 4.6 dohc. While driving home from NH all of a sudden I felt a loss of power and ruff idle at a stop. Took it to a local dealer and the diagnosis was loss of compression in # 1 & 5 cylinders. I can't imagine what would cause this to happen in an instant with out warning.
Are there any techs or anyone that can help with any info. :help: :help: :( :(

My mother has a 98 continental and It had coils go bad creating the rough idle and loss of power. It dosent seem logical for an engine to just lose compression overnight. I think that you are just not getting any spark to those cylinders.

Thanks for the info but the 95 was the 1st year for the 4,6 and they didn't have coils on each plug. I have had 2 garages check this and the same conclusion by taking a compression test is zero in 1 & 5.
I agree with you that if dosn't seem logical (I was a machanic years ago) so that whats baffels me.
I hope someone has access to Ford on line trouble shooting and can give me some direction. I love this car!:lovies:

If you go to Blueovalnews.com, you will find a link there to Flatratetech.com, I think that is the address. You can try the link directly, but if I'm wrong, you'll find it on the Blue oval site. You will be able to post your question there, and a Ford Tech will answer your question.

Broken valve springs are pretty common on that engine, especially the '95.

Thanks! I am leaning that way myself seeing it happened so fast. I'll have it check out Monday. :hmmm:
Larry,
If it turns out catastrophic, I know a kid with a '95 4.6l DOHC from an LSC with 70,000 miles on it, for sale, cheap! He bought it to build for his car, but ran into trouble financially. Now needs money and fast. PM me if interested. Vitually same as a Marauder engine with a different intake and oil pan.
Best luck,
J

i think the cylinders have flooded with fuel. this will cause low compression. put plugs in it and shoot some trans fluid in the cylinders. then try to start it. this will restore comppression. you may have to put your foot to the floor to get it to run. we dealt with this alot on those engines. something in the pcm program causes this once in a great while. i really doubt you have broken valvesprings on 2 cylinders at the same time.......

Thanks, I'll know more about the problem on Monday. From all the info I've gotten from this site and 2 others is that it points to a valve problem, which may not be to hard to fix. BTW there are a couple of things that are different from the LSC and the Conti. The Conti is transverse mount front wheel drive, so I'm not sure if it will bolt up. Second the HP rating on the LSC is 280 hp and the Conti is 260 hp as not to damage the trans. Also intake is different but that's no bid deal.
If things are are bad I may buy it just for the heads. I'll PM you in a few days.
Thanks
:)
