That's a damn good question. There was a convertible made, but not for 2006 nor could it be licensed.
Anyone?

My question is, how many of us would prefer to have the drop top?? It looks good, but I would have to see it in person. For now I say NO.

You know it's bogus when the list price of a convertible is two grand less than the '04 Sedan.

I saw this car at the New York Autoshow. It was on a revolving turntable. The car was gorgeous!
Next to it, on the floor, was a typical black MM sedan.
The attention that the convertible received was amazing. The sedan sat there with very few lookers.
The year before, they showed an MM sedan that had different shades of black (ex: the gas cap door and the quarter panel were different shades), and they had the car locked up tight so that nobody could sit in it. (Meanwhile, the much more expesive Lexus model had people crawling all over the car, in and out.)

It's not a myth. My mom drives an '06 MM convertible. It came SC from the factory and it's white.
I raced it in my badazz Celica and smoked it, yo.

My question is, how many of us would prefer to have the drop top??Although I like the look of the convertible pictured, I'd have to see it with the top UP to really decide. However, since the one and only convertible produced didn't even HAVE a roof, there's no way we'll ever know what it would have looked like. :alone: Thanks a lot, Elena...I hope you're happy riding around in your Mariner...

It's a 2002 concept car that was taken around the auto shows. The Car was fitted with an Eaton supercharged 2V 4.6l. The rear windows and top were non functional and the program would was written so that the car could not exceede 25mph. This car was sold on Ebay early 2005 for 35k. In the auction it was stated several times that the car had no title and was not currently street legal. Don't know what became of it after that.

IMHO it would have been nice to have either a removable hardtop ala T-Bird, a clear top ala Crown Vic Skyliner or a hardtop convertible ala Chevy SSR. Would also liked to have had a factory SC option as well as a handeling package.

Realize ( and have known ) that it was/is a concept vehicle, however .....
One of the points that y'all are missing is that a panther convertible would need EXTENSIVE frame re-enforcement to compensate for the lack of roof and provide for structural integrity. *Even IF it had been done, the supercharger would not have been an option, it would have been standard equipment to get the barge to have SOME ( albeit anemic ) performance.
Just remember the previous barge convertibles that I've owned - 1957 ( with Thunderbird 312 ), 1958 ( with 352 Interceptor ), 1963 ( with 390 ); what they all had in common - poor performance, poor handling, poor MPG ( would have been tolerable if performance would have been there ) and squeaks up the wazzoo.

Phone calls, stalking! With all due respect Bradley, it'll never happen...Ford (and every other manufacturer) doesn't actually care what their customers WANT to buy; their attitude is "If we build it, they will come" (witness the Pontiac Aztek, the Subaru Tribeca, and the Nissan Murano...)
Ms. Elena Ford has already decreed that from now on "Mercury will build no performance car before its time"...or, apparently, at ANY time... :shake:

Would rather have the 1963 1/2 Galaxie XL. :cool:Yeah, I had a 64 Galaxie 500XL 4-Door hardtop, bucket seats and all. Love to have it back...or the 70 Barracuda convertible...or the 73 Vette.
