View Full Version : MM vs. Lincoln LS

;) I was just wondering if anyone has an first hand experience of how a Lincoln LS V8 runs? I was coming home from work today and there was one behind me that would ride my butt and then drop way off or get caught in traffic (on the highway).
Finally got to a wide open stretch. We are running about 70 or so as we are behind 1 slow car in the left lane that won't pass the car on the right. Finally that car gets over. We clear them and I hit it. Run it up to about 90 mph or so. I get the jump on him at the start, but then really don't pull much after that. We were at another open stretch but a Mazda 3 got behind me and in front of him. Of course I left the Mazda 3 without trouble, but the Lincoln got caught behind him.
I get off at my exit and he does too. Now we are in town and time to cool it. He pulls up next to me and in a nice tone of voice, kind of joking, says he would have had me if that other guy wouldn't have gotten in the way.
So, what's the thought. Can a Lincoln LS V8 hang with the Marauder? My car is relatively close to stock - just the JLT CAI and XCal2 from Lidio with the 93 octane tune. Stock gears, exhaust, etc. Should it really be that close? If so, then I really need that new exhaust and the Trilogy. ;)

Depends on what year - pre 2005 no way. 2005 and up probably.
(If not 2005 then 2004 or whichever year they added more oomph to the LS)

STOCK: both the Marauder and LS V8 will run about 15.4 in the quarter.
We have more ponies, but he has less weight. Don't bet your pay check.

A 2003 or newer V8 LS should be a little faster than a stock MM.
An older V8 LS would be about the same or a little slower than a MM.

It's funny you brought this up as I was just wondering the same thing. They are nice cars and look great! It's a shame Ford didn't captilize on them with more marketing and perhaps better power from their initial launch in 1999. They could have been a serious cross shopper against some of zee Germans!

I really like those cars too. Just not quite enough room for me and not sure where they can justify 50,000 for a new LS V8. And, yeah, I think this guy has a relatively new one. Too clean to be an older one. Looked good in the silver, chrome wheels, etc. Definitely needed his windows tinted, though.

Just get some 4.10's and Nos, then no more worries about much.

The 4.10's I keep going back and forth on. Not sure how much they would have helped from a 65mph roll and go. And while I appreciate Nitrous, it is not for me. Will be strapping on a supercharger at some point. Hopefully help get rid of that bog of the line as it is with the 3.55's and N/A. I just hate waiting for it to get up in the power band and start pulling.

Heres my Good friends 03 Lincoln LSE, I raced him with nothing, stock gears, no bolt-ons and no tune. His car was the same way.
First gear we were nose to nose, When I shifted into second he was still next to me till his car shifted into 3rd before I did, I started pulling away from him and edged him out by a full car length by the time we hit 100MPH.
We did this race recently with my gears, bolt-ons, and tune. He has since put in a K&N drop in filter and a SCT tune.
Its not even close anymore, I pull a car length off the line and by the time we hit 100, Im at least 3 car lengths and pulling strong.
Now that I have 4.10's its probably safe to say that if we had enough road, he would eventually catch me and pass me with his 5spd auto and dead rear end gears, but we would need at least 5 miles of road to pull that off.

You guys got some damn good timing. I took my wife up to the track Tuesday (her 2006LS with DR tune, and conical air filter) and my 300a with PHP CAI, DR tune, Proguard, mufflerless.
She ran a best of 15.25, my best was 14.98. I ran 14.57 on MM back in Nov. Timeslips are in my gallery. LS=car #790, MM=car #789.

My 04 LS (and my 03 TBird/same drivetrain) are pretty quick.
I can only go by stock/stock magazine road tests.
03 and up LS and TBirds were supposed to run 0-60 in low/mid six second range. MMs were coming in at high 7s, low 8s, pure stock. As for handling, the car is great. Has a solid ride and corners real well. (Can't say the same for the TBird, but at least the roof goes down.) Both cars have SST shifting, which can be fun if you have the right road.
LS trunk's not that huge, but the seats fold flat and we're empty nesters, so who cares?
As for Ford blowing it, they sure did.
After coming out with a car that could finally run with the Europeans, and giving it a nice horsepower boost in 2003, they did absolutely nothing to improve the car after 2003.
Now, even some of the mid-priced, mid size Japanese family sedans right out of the showroom can now run 0-60 in the mid 6s.
Way to go, Ford.
