I recently purchased a one owner 2004 DTR MM. The car seems far too eager to shift immediately from first into a higher gear - is this for better economy?
I just drove my Dad's 2005 Grand Marquis in comparison, and it shifts beautifully -just like it's supposed to! I would be delighted if my MM would shift like the Grand Marquis.
Is the MM shift pattern normal? and can I change it with a chip or shift kit?

Thanks
adoldfield

Type in "shift points" in the search function.
You will find all the answers to your questions.
Congratulations on your new car, and welcome!

If it shifts as quickly as you describe, Its possible that the previous owner changed the gears and didnt put a tune in for the tranny
Is your speedometer correct??

Welcome, adoldfield!

Yes, it is normal for a stock MM to upshift way too soon. In fact, that is the biggest complaint we hear about stock Marauders.

You need a new tune to correct it...fortunately, there are a number of vendors on this board that sell really excellent tunes. Contact Dennis at Reinhart Automotive (www.reinhartautomotive.com), Lidio at Alternative Auto Performance (www.alternativeauto.com), or Wes at Innovative Interceptors (www.innovativeinterceptors.co m).

Welcome to the collective. Always nice to see another DTR owner here. Although the stock tranny tune in the 04's are better than 03, you will like it more with a tuner or chip. I'm chipped, had it custom tuned and it makes a night/day difference. If keeping the warranty intact is a concern, go with the tuner. No hiding the fact you've chipped the car on a 04.

from one 04 dtr owner to another, get a tune!!!! lidio or dennis has
one and it will make a world of difference. car is much more responsive and there will be no more "fall on you face short shifting".
the other gains from a tune are good , but the tranny shift part is the best imho! i went with lidio , but it is a free country!! or so they would have you believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for their replies! I will give a couple of the vendors a call. I am looking forward to getting the shift correct!

Hi Alan, We DTR's are few but mighty. Welcome. A good tune will wake up your Marauder. Lidio is so good that I want him to to do my heart transplant if I need one. You can trust him to get the max SAFE performance from your Marauder and he is a great guy and a friend to all here. Dennis:beer:

Must be the DTR disease. At 1300 m. mine did the same thing, shutter between 2nd ans 3dr shift . Brought it into the dealed and found the trans fluid was contaminated with water and the clutches started to burn. The tech said this was the second GM out of Toronto he'd seen like that.
Check your fluid for pink color or burn smell.

Aaaah yes, another DTR member. Welcome aboard!

I have a tune in mine and the driveability is much nicer than stock. :burnout:

The Xcal or Xcal II would be the the best option for '04's in my opinion.

Mike.
