Ford yanks sedan set to be built in Chicago

Ford has scrapped plans for one of two new Lincoln sedans to be built at its Chicago Assembly Plant, according to Erich Merkle of IRN Inc., a Michigan consultancy that forecasts auto production levels. A Ford spokesman declines comment. The other model, the Lincoln MKS, is expected to begin production in 2008. The Chicago plant already builds the Ford Five Hundred sedan and Freestyle sport-utility wagon. Earlier this year, Ford ditched plans to build a Mercury version of the Freestyle here (ChicagoBusiness.com, Feb. 8). [Bob Tita]

This may be good news. Has Ford abandoned the idea of replacing the Town Car with something on the 500 platform? Does this leave room for an updated Panther, or maybe a car built on the Austrailian Falcon platform?

Just bring the damn Falcon over already and I'll be all over it like Herb from WKRP on a cheap leisure suit.
