A guy I know has an 03 MM with full size spare like mine. The cover around his gear selector matches that funny looking sort of speckled strip on dash. Mine has a chrome cover around gear selector. I bought it used at carmax. Does anyone else have a chrome cover? Thanks

All MM's come with the dot matrix trim plate that matches the rest of the interior trim.
A few of us(myself incl) have swapped them out for the chrome bezel that came on the CV Sport/GM LSE.
Yours was obviously swapped out or replaced at one time.

It's a mis-build from the factory that I am happy with. I believe that it was a part of my car that got it into the 10s! :D

That dot-matrix is about a gram more weight wise then the chrome so that was good for at least a .01 of a second I'm sure Martyo. lol

Looking at a few other threads poping up here recently, this makes me wonder WTF the production line was up to in the week of transition from the 300A to the 300B. Someone get sent home?
Hell...Here's a shot in the dark. Maybe the transition was not cost cutting as we have accepted, rather an end result of a shortage due to Ford suppliers coming up short?
Maybe we got 300As and 300Bs, because certain features were not available to the production line?
It's hard to imagine this, but what happens when a particular piece of trim comes up missing? Does Ford pause production until it's available?
Also makes me wonder if there isn't a 2V SOHC Marauder out there somewhere...Boggles the mind, eh?
Who knows (shrug), just a thought...

Dunno Mac, but when I am lined up with my good friend Jerry Barnes, his car will look like it has a 2V! :D

Who knows (shrug), just a thought...Actually Mac, towards the end of a production run or mid year changes part shortages are very common. Sometimes material handling at the plant level might/can miscalculate for scrap, dropped parts and such on the line during the coarse of the year.

Along those lines, I wonder if there are some late A's with wiring behind the dash trim for a clock, but got the no clock trim instead.

All MM's might have the connector for the clock. Sometimes the manufacturer doesn't change the wiring harness unless it's a major revision.

This can definetly be stock. I bought my DTR new and had to choose between 2 identical cars. I chose the one I have because I liked the chrome better!
