Hey guys...
I purchased my Marauder from CarMax and got their 3 year extended warranty for $1469. I don't like the fact that they aren't open on weekends and there is a $50 deductible every time you bring it in.
My credit union who I a financing my car through offers an extended warranty cheaper than CarMax through Mercury Insurance. What I'm told is there is no deductible, and I can bring my car to any mechanic or dealership.
Has anybody had any experience with extended warranties? If so, can you suggest a specific company?
Thanks,
Daniel

I bought my MM and extended warranty at carmax. Then 3 weeks later I got a much better deal in the mail from First national Warranty. 120,000 mile, 7 year warranty, that covered alot more for $1800

I still keep getting junk warranty stuff in the mail for the wife's car that I bought last August and have got several things for the MM when I had purchased it from a L/M dealer and got a 4/48K prem warranty. If you get one of those mail warranty things make sure you read EVERY piece of small fine print cause their going to get you somewhere in the deal.

My preference is to buy a Ford extended warranty purchased from a Ford dealer. This is because I primarily use Ford dealer to work on my Marauder. I have found over the years using various third party extended warranty vendors that I have had very good luck with them covering items listed on the contract. However, there is usually some time lag waiting for the warranty company to return a phone call or send a rep on site to verify major (expensive) repairs. Might be just an hour, might be a couple of days. This is not acceptable to me, so I pay the higher price for Ford warranty - it gets my vehicle out of the shop faster. One of my coworkers recently bought a really nice used Ford F350 with the humongous turbo diesel in it and purchased the extended warranty from our credit union. It recently developed tranny issues that required a tranny rebuild. It paid for the repairs with no hassle, but sure enough there was a couple days the Ford dealer had to wait for a warranty verification.

There have been many warnings on this forum about NEVER buying any extended warrenties, except from Ford.

Don't buy any warranty except from FORD.
You can get an extended warranty for any Ford, Mercury or Lincoln vehicle
as long as it is less than 3 years old and has less than 36,000 miles on it.
Ford Warranties are good at ANY Ford Dealership !!!
There is often a no questions asked policy unless your vehicle
looks like it was driven like it was stolen.
Ford Warranties also cover the MOST parts.
I have NEVER heard of a Ford Externded Warranty denying a claim.
In fact, I have never heard of ANY Manufacturer's Extended Warranty
denying any customers from a claim.
Don't go to a dealer ALONE and buy a warranty for your car.
Go with a friend who has a good relationship with a salesperson.
You may be able to get a better deal on the warranty through the salesperson.
They can easily sell you any extended warranty cheaper than directly from FORD.

I know I've posted this before but, buy the Ford ESP. It is the only warranty that is honored at 5200 Ford and Lincoln/Mercury dealerships across the US and Canada.
At our dealership, we have seen many aftermarket warranties come and go. These aftermarket companies will deny claims for any reason that they can. We had a Navigator come in needing an engine. It had 265/XX/16 tires on it, the truck originally came with 275/xx/16's. The warranty company declined the claim because the fine print said it will not cover any claim if it has a different tire size. We had a customer recently with a blown trans. We called his warranty company and got a recording, it was out of business.
As you may know, the insurance industry in FL is regulated. It doesn't matter who you know, all dealers are required to sell you the policy at a predetermined price. When I tried to buy it for my MM at my dealer, there was no employee discount. Instead, I called Charles Capper Ford at (319) 668-1910 and asked for warranty central. I bought a 6/75 ESP Premium Care policy for under $1100, my dealer's best price was just over $1800. Same policy, nothing different except the price. My dealer said it was about $100 over cost.
Note: I just checked their website and it is out of order www.warrantycentral.com. Maybe try later? Just tried, its up.

Carfixer,
The Insurance Industry as a whole is regulated and it sucks.
They are looking for every little excuse to sell you policies for any cost.
And they have Uncle Sam backing up every decision they make.
An Extended Warranty is not considered an Insurance Policy.
It is a Retails Service Agreement.
Dealerships are NOT regulated when it comes to selling Retail Service Agreements.
They can sell the Extended Warranties for the MSRP all day long if they get buyers.
My dealer here in NY, showed me the sales guide for the warranties.
It shows cost, and additional charges for mileage, etc...
My Dealer's OWNER will only sell Extended Warranties at a minimum of $200 over invoice.
So no matter the total, it always starts off with $200 up front.
