ok so Zeibart has this coating that is supposed to protect your paint and such, and because the paint is so tender on the blacks I was seriously considering it. HOWEVER... what are the side effects? I know the zeibart people will tell me all is well, but what can I still do to the finish? can I use swirl remover? can I still get a deep wax shine? Just wondering if anyone has experience with this stuff... any info would be good :D

Run.
It costs nearly that just in labor to tape up the car properly. Can't see the material being worth much at that price.
If your gonna do anything, have it re-cleared.
Price doesn't sound like something I'd do.

It's normally $250 but I got my tint done there so he is giving me 1/2 off... does that help???

Ask for a sample on a scrap of sheet metal next time they do one for someone, then play with it to get your answers....
I'm leary of these things in general. They do one here called 'auto butler' but it lasts about 3 months in the Florida sun and is about useless.
I paint my cars with extra clear coats so that I have some thickness to compound or wax or even wet sand in necessary.

In 1983 I purchased a new AMC Concord station wagon and through 1992 I had Ziebart, at that time, apply a product to the exterior called Zieglaze. The Ziebart franchised closed in 1993. Today the vehicle still looks like its brand new, but it is a garaged one. As I recall, the initial cost was around $200.00 with free annual Zieglaze treatments as long as I owned the vehicle. I wish our area still had a Ziebart franchise. I recommend you seriously look into their treatment.

Ziebart is a waste of your time and money. If you know anything about professional detailing you'd understand why. All they care about is making money (obviously, they're a business). This isn't bad in itself, but when you're expecting results that should come from the job, Ziebart (and detailers that work at the dealers) do not output quality. They're more concerned about quantity.
Ok, so what do I suggest? Find yourself a good local independent detailer and ask him his opinion. Tell him what you want to achieve. If it's paint protection, tell him you want them to use a good "sealant". If it's done right, the sealant will protect the car for many moons.
