View Full Version : Donny has the fever.... (DUW)

Okay, okay, call it Logan's disease. I read about the latest incentives, and it's making it tempting to trade.

First, understand, I bought the SSR at a huge discount and got a great trade on my MM, though not near enough to cover the mods. What I took in the shorts was the finance interest rate. Ford Credit financed the Marauder at 0 percent, GMAC nailed my big butt for 8.75.

So, trading now into another ride, 0 percent for 72, I can unload that huge finance charge. Ford actually has sweetened the deal with $1,000 cash with 0 percent.

So, I have looked around and done some test drives. Here are the candidates:

1) Trade my '05 SSR for an '06 SSR. I can get one of the tutones or the '06 Pacific Blue with the bright chrome package, something I lust after. Downside is the supply of '06 SSR's is dwindling, and the nearest new one is an hours drive away. The one I would want to buy is almost 200 miles away. Upside is the remaining '06's have special final production run badging and the dealers that ordered them generally give good trades on SSR'.s

2) Trade my '05 SSR for an '06 Trailblazer SS. There's one exactly like I want, loaded to the hilt with AWD, at Ellis Chevrolet in Atlanta. It looks like this:

http://www.gmcanada.com/images/vehicles/2006/chevytrucks/trailblazer/chtr_trai_mode_main.jpg

3) '06 Silverado SS

http://www.race2win.net/images/cars/05/de06ss.jpg

Local dealer has an Intimidator SS like this in stock. I have an appointment to test drive this truck tomorrow. They also have a regular SS in Silverstone and in Red. Upside is this dealer has sold a lot of SSR's, so my trade value may be best here.

4) '06 Ford F150 Harley Davidson

I drove an AWD version tonight, very nice truck. Not completely loaded, but lots of things to like about it (sun roof, premium sound with satellite). I was very disappointed with the power of the 5.4 L compared to the LS2 in the SSR. Perhaps it's the AWD system, but this sucker was slow as hell. I have approved financing on this truck with Ford credit, the problem is this Ford dealer is allowing a horrible trade on the SSR, so if they don't come up a bunch, no sale. I would like to be back in the Ford family and would like to have a truck I can take over to the boys at Team for service. But, crap, this needs a blower or I won't be happy with it.

5) '07 Cadillac STS-V

A long shot. A local Caddie dealer has a fresh '07 on the ground in the colors I want and options I want. Price is huge (sticker is $54 K) and GMAC will only go 60 months Zero percent on caddies for some reason. (most everything else is 72 months). I may be able to get an '06 in the low to mid forties, but it's kinda small inside and my ass is kinda big. Still, the LS2 in this beast it should haul whatever ass you have with great haste. Logan's '04 had a 5.7: LS1, iirc, the LS2 went into the models.

Go for the SuperSport Silverado. A close friend of my was going to get one but apparently there wasn't a dealer in the state that had one, so he had to settle for something else. He test drove a used one but they wanted to much and he said they are crazy fast. I'm not sure on exactly how fast but this is what I was told.

From what I've heard, they're under powered. I don't know much about them, maybe they have some balls, but are too heavy?

How about anything Duramax? You should look into that crazy fun. My brother has a 7.3L Powerstroke Excursion with a larger turbo, injectors, runs 40 lbs of boost wide open, and puts my Supercharged Marauder to shame.

I knew there was a reason I like you... :)

Give this man a prize. Both the above are on my own personal short list of rides as I consolidate back to a single ride that the kiddo's can haul around in and that I don't have to leave an armed guard posted everytime I leave it in a parking lot...

Harley Truck, barely fits in the garage and it goes underappreciated with the degree of travelling I do these days...

...and the mustang, doesn't fit the kiddo's...

...and the wife is sick of parking her van outside. :)

Look for Logan in a TB SS or GC SRT8 in the coming months...

...apparently I infected Donny at some point...

For all those attending Dream Cruise, I WILL be there, in the Harley Truck with Bells on...

Good bye SSR, hello new ride. I have pulled the trigger and traded into an '06.

The Trailblazer SS was out there in front, but I just couldn't get the dealer to budge much on the loaded AWD black one in Atlanta. There's nothing as well optioned anywhere near me. That Atlanta SS had DVD navigation, rear entertainment system, AWD, just about the whole catalog.

Anywho, this being the last day of the month, I had four different dealerships calling thoughout the day, went to look at the Silverado SS (it was eliminated), and ended up at the Ford dealer to show a buddy of mine the F-150. Salesman upped the trade on my SSR, threw in a Ford bed liner, and sold me ESP for dealer cost. Sold. Signed, and delivered. It sits out in the driveway as I type this.

I did a lot of looking at online sites, and there's a lot that can be done to improve the power on this truck short of a supercharger, which is also a real possibility.

Back in the fold, again, I look forward to taking it over to Team to show Scott and Jason, not to mention the glamor pic next to Big Yellar!

My truck is very similar to Logans, except his is lowered and mine is AWD. I'm going to get a Trilogy put in, lower it not quite as much as L's and some other goodies. Already ordered the first mod.

I think that you made a sweet choice as the rest were not for me. To be honest the 06 SSR would be the worst choice for exactly the reasons that Rider90 mentioned above. You would be bored on the ride home.

The Silverado SS is built on the old GM platform. Next year it will be out dated (or is it already?). The New Silverados will get the new platform that that Subs and Yukons etc are already using.

I love the loaded Ford F-150. A real mans car IMHO. However, do report gas MPG data when you have a chance. If it is anything like my uncle's Ram 1500 Hemi expect 11-14 MPG.

I like to buy the best and keep things a long time. I would rather have one great car (like the Marauder) for a long time than changing cars every two yrs. I get attached when a car treats me good (I take care of her and all her maintenace and she remains reliable). Everything on your list would have me fall asleep bored by yr. 2 of ownership except the F-150. I believe that it is one of the few cars (trucks) that when taken care of correctly will look just as cool and manly 10 yrs. from now as it does today.

Seeing your sickness LNCSS (Logan's New Car Scent Syndrome) I suspect that in two years time another lucky bastard will be driving that F-150.

The Silverado SS I drove had a dated looking interior, and yes, I knew it would be an obsolete model soon. Power was good, though not SSR class. I was really turned off to see DRUM brakes on the rear. Eeech.

Gas mileage as reported by the information center is 11.8 mpg, though unlike GM's DIC, which gives you real time mpg readings, this one doesn't update mpg as frequently. It was around 10 mpg when I picked the truck up, now is hitting 12 mpg. My SSR was averaging a bit over 17 mpg. I expect the F150 will average about 14 eventually, maybe a bit lower. I suspect full time AWD takes it's toll on mileage. Only have 200 miles on it now. Fortunately, no need for premium, so what I lose in mileage will be made up in lower fuel costs per gallon.

I'm taking dibs on who wants this truck, cause you're right that two years from now I doubtless will be driving something else. I'm gonna take my time with mods to enjoy the process.

Donny,
The Ford is a great looking truck but i thought one of the coolest things about it was the interior. The styling cues are all very cool but the leather is made from something other than a normal cow. The texture is unlike anything else I've ever seen in an automobile. Very nice!

Spill the beans....What's the first mod? TAF making it louder??

Crud...day late and a dollar short to this thread. Was getting ready to list the dealer that gave me a crazy deal on my SS as I was hoping you'd end up in the Trailblazer because I don't know anyone else that has one but saw you got the F150. Either way, nice truck...congrats.

Donny,

You will love the truck. I have had an F150 FX4 for 2 years and it has been a great truck. We obviously added our supercharger and it has been hauling ass ever since. The ride is good, but the Harley version ride is great. I briefly rode in Logan's and it is terrific. I hope to be taking delivery of my new/used Harley F150 next month at the Woodward Dream Cruise. The current lease on my F150 is almost up and I got a great deal from a very close friend on a Trilogy Supercharged Harley F150. I can't wait!

You'll love the truck, it looks bad A$$!!! Did I mention I love the color Black?

Enjoy, Best Wishes!

At the end of my second day of full ownership, I am happy to report that I am in complete love with this truck! It is >awesome.<

When I get a Trilogy installed on my pride and joy, we'll have to test how AWD compares to 2WD with a real world run down the track. Or two. And shoot drinks will be on me afterwards no matter what the outcome!:)

--

I am warming up to Sirius satellite radio now that I have a free six month subscription. But I haven't had to give up on XM, as it turns out. I bought an XM PCR a few months back off of Ebay, and along with TimeTrax I have the ability to record XM radio in MP3 format, which can then be burned onto a CD and played in the new truck. Works flawlessly and the bitrate I use produces amazing quality recordings. It's boggling that this entertainment system offers hundreds of tracks via 6 discs of MP3s, conventional CD's, satellite radio and conventional radio. Ford even offers two accessories that plug into this head unit.. one is a bluetooth system that automutes music to take or place a call, the other is an ipod or portable mp3 player interface for the glove box that is selected via the head units AUX button. Also, the '07's will have DVD navigation as an option using a new Audiophile head unit that I read may be backwards compatible with previous systems. That would be awesome.

One of my first mods will be to upgrade cabin speakers and install an MTX powered subwoofer that's designed for the '06 F150, sitting below the rear seats. That should make an already good sounding system sound fantastic.
