Just wondering if any of you that live in areas that actually get snow in the winter have ever used a Mustang as a winter beater/daily driver. I have driven some of my F-Bodies in the winter and they are not that great, but I always had the same tires on them that I ran in the summer.

Wondering how a Fox Body or early SN-95 Mustang would do as a daily driver/winter car if I ran winter wheels and tires on it like I did on the Marauder. Just exploring other options for daily driver/winter beater...

I used my 89 Formula year round with BFG KDWS tires on it for a few winters in NY with pleanty of snow and minimal troubles.

I used to drive my 90 LX 5.0 year round..on Gatorbacks. The trick was that it had 2.73 hgears and a light touch on the throttle.

I suspect with winter tires, it should be no issue. Hell a 4cyl fox body should be less than dirt cheap. And it will keep you from thinking about dumping money into it to add mods!!!

You have a good point there. And the gas mileage shouldn't be too bad.

I'd be cautious to drive a Mustang through a puddle, let alone snow and ice...

My friend has a 91 GT thats his summer car then he has a 86 4 cyl that he drives in the winter he has had the car since he was 16 and he is 25 and he has drove it in every MI winter and hasnt had a problem. Just a matter of how you drive it. I wouldnt get a 5.0 thought thats just to much power for the winter. I drive an Astro in the winter but the gas kills, almost as bad as the MM.

With 4 winter tires installed, you should be fine. I had an 85 Capri RS 5.0 that was my daily driver many years ago, and with 4 Michelin winter tires, I had no troubles.

As a former F-Body driver, I used my old car year round here in NYC w/ performance tires on it, just go easy on the throttle and start in 2nd gear when need be and you'll be fine IMO :)

I drove a 96 GT vert all through winter, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, just take it easy and like Zim says, start in 2nd if you have to.
